A few "Einstein"s, that apparently should never be allowed to vote in the AP poll again.....

notice how many times ESPN's Chris Fowler show up :bash:

The following voted Florida (record of 7-4 and loser of the head-to-head matchup with Tennessee 28-30) over Tennessee (record of 9-3, winner over Fla 30-28, winner of SEC EAST, record of 5-0 over SEC East teams).....

:furious3:
Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer, Cleveland
Jim Carty, The Ann Arbor (Mich.) News
Chris Fowler, ESPN
Ted Lewis, The Times-Picayune, New Orleans
Neal McCready, Mobile (Ala.) Register
John Niyo, Detroit News
Mike Vega, The Boston Globe

The following voters have the Vols behind such 7-4 teams as Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Purdue, Ohio State....

Kirk Bohls, Austin (Texas) American-Statesman [Ohio St]
Bob Condotta, Seattle Times [Purdue]
Chris Fowler, ESPN [Texas Tech]
Paul Gattis, Huntsville (Ala.) Times [Texas A&M]
Brian Hamilton, St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press [Texas Tech]

These voters put the Vols behind Big East representative in the BCS, Pittsburgh (8-3). Note that Syracuse actually won the Big East but was only 6-5 overall....

Joe Biddle, The Tennessean, Nashville
Chris Fowler, ESPN
Brian Hamilton, St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press
Fred Lewis, Honolulu Advertiser
John Niyo, Detroit News
Neill Ostrout, Connecticut Post, Bridgeport
Joe Person, The State, Columbia, S.C.
Curt Rallo, The South Bend (Ind.) Tribune
Steve Sipple, Lincoln (Neb.) Star Journal
Edgar Thompson, The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post
Tommy Trujillo, Santa Fe New Mexican
Mike Vega, The Boston Globe

Other odd votes...
:puke:
Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer, Cleveland has the Vols behind Toledo (9-3) and
Brian Hamilton, St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press has the Vols behind Boston College (8-3).

Just think, the coaches poll is even worse than that. What is wrong with these people? I know we didn't have the best team in the world this year, but some of those are ridiculous. Behind Toledo, Pitt, UF and Texas Tech. Please.....what a bunch of blowhards! :bad:

Fowler is a "jagoff", has been since his "trailer trash" comments and this will not change. Where is his origin, school etc.? :finger: :shakeit: :moon2: :bad: :flush: thanks for this post, quite informative!

All that I know about him is he used to be a stat boy for the Colorado Buffs in the 80's and he hates Tennessee.

Very informative post. Easy to see now why we're so far behind Georgia despite winning head to head and an better conference record.

You ask if this effects next year, and I answer it absolutely does. Look at Auburn from last year to this year.

But if we went out and played every game to the best of our ability and followed the Maxims, no one could stop us.

I'm afraid it will take winning 20 in a row to change this national perception.

Another question is what the hell did we ever do to piss off Chris Fouler? (intentionally misspelled)
Was the girl of his dreams a UT grad, or he lost her to a UT grad? What gives?

Since we're blasting Fowler, I want to give props to the guy that I respect the most out of that bunch - Tony Barnhart. His analysis is about the most fair that you'll read or see, and his top 25 indicates that some thought actually went into his votes.

It's interesting to see that some of the Pollsters actually took into account that we were beaten twice by an undefeated SEC team... we should be placed ahead of UGA based on head to head, and above Michigan. The two teams we lost to... Auburn and ND, the two they lost to OHIO FREAKIN' STATE (not in top 25) and ND!!!

All this is worth NOTHING if we don't beat the Ags in the Cotton Bowl.

I find it amazing that Florida State is ranked so high.

They were beaten handily by Florida at home, and their only win all season over a top 20ish team was against Virginia.

I think most of the voting involves only very superficial research at best, and mostly goes on W-L record without taking much consideration of who was beaten.

Our win over Georgia doesn't count any higher in most voters memories than beating La Tech, the only reason we didn't dropped further after our second loss to Auburn was because many voters probably actually watched this game, and we were already at the bottom of the heap of two loss teams.

If you all get tired of the view from Bammerville, please let me know. This is my place to vent.

That being said, I was talking with two Bama fans the other day (both hold Ph.Ds by the way) and they were going on about how UT is not a good team. When I pointed out that at least 7 teams in the SEC (the ones we beat of course) had to be considered worse, they went into the old "if we hadn't fumbled on that play, we'd have beat UT" and on and on how we struggled against a team with a 3rd string back field that had been unjustly weekened by the NCAA, blah blah blah. These normally intelligent people fully believe that the 9 out of 10 is a "fluke" resulting from the NCAA, the SEC, the FBI, the Federation, the Empire and various as yet unamed universal forces being out to get them.

Evidently, many of the AP voters share their views. :bs:

What do I win?

Yes allvol, you have won a fabulous trip to the ESPN studios where you will enjoy a wonderful tour of the studios and get to meet all of the anchors. As a Tennessee fan, you will enjoy a wonderful 1 night and 2 day stay at the Roadway Motel. On your day in the studio, wear your orange and white and enjoy a day of ESPN anchors kicking you in the gut and spitting on your orange. When you are done with that, you will be invited to ESPN bash Tennessee club. There, they will make fun of you and your team. You will also be provided with gear from real football teams like Pitt, Texas Tech, Florida and Florida State. Enjoy!!
