AP Poll Released

Was just about to post this. Sarr being eligible has apparently vaulted UK above us in the national eye but I still think they will have holes generated from a lack of cohesion and chemistry. Big 10 must be a meat grinder this year with three teams in the top 10.

I'd probably trade Kentucky and Tennessee, and I think Kansas is overrated. Overall it looks pretty close though.

Also, LSU, Florida, and Alabama are essentially 26, 28, and 29 respectively. Arkansas is nowhere to be found. I think they're going to make their way into the top 25 this year.

Big roster turnover at AK but their coach is solid

No Dayton? They must have lost a lot from last year's team. That is a shame for them. They may never be that good again. They had a good shot at the Final Four but didn't get a chance. That was a great team.

I think 12 is right where we want to be. I do believe this Tennessee team kicks some butt and takes no prisoners.

I believe Tennessee is 5-13 against the AP #1 team, most recently beating #1 Gonzaga on a neutral court in December 2018 (Other wins: Home Kentucky March '66, Away South Carolina Dec '69, Away Memphis Feb '08, Home Kansas Jan '10). Assuming Gonzaga holds onto that ranking by the time we play them, Gonzaga will be the third program we've played when they were the number one team at least twice (the others being Kentucky and Florida).

Also interesting to note, our first two wins against a #1 team were back to back, as were the next two. If we beat Gonzaga this year that will again be back to back wins in games against the #1 team.

Also of course Gonzaga would be the first program we beat as the #1 team on two separate occasions, which would be odd because we will have played them as #1 just two times and we've played Kentucky as #1 eleven times

They have plenty of talent, no doubt, but they have that every year. The issue is that they have exactly one returning player from last year that was any sort of a contributor. So, now Cal has to meld this collection of transfers and freshmen into a team that can play together without the benefit of a normal offseason. He’s really good at that very thing, but this year it is a bit different because everyone isn’t coming in on the same page (all freshmen). You now have some guys that transferred in expecting to play. How do they react if they are passed up by freshmen? The dynamic is a little different, this year, but they certainly aren’t starved for talent.

That “Home Kansas Jan ‘10”. That was just so satisfying. I still make a big grin about it (like right now).

I'm from Memphis (and have a split family as far as allegiances go) so that 2008 game may always be my favorite, but the Kansas game was great too. Skylar McBee, man

Good synopsis. I do believe Tennessee wins the SEC.

I keep reading that Keon is a one and done lottery pick and even better than advertised. I can't wait to see him play this season.

They legitimately could have won it all last season. Losing Obi Toppin to the draft is a huge loss for them and almost certainly guarantees a drop off.

Why do they even post polls in basketball? They are totally irrelevant since you have a tournament.

It's a ridiculous waste of time and wrong most of the time.

Maybe we can have it replace the games and just pick a champion.

Big roster turnover at AR but their coach is solid

Yeah 9 new faces is a lot:

4 freshmen from the recruiting class
3 immediately-eligible grad transfers
2 transfers who sat out last year (technically 3 but one tore his ACL and wasn't going to play a whole lot regardless)

Isaiah Joe declaring for the draft at the last minute probably dropped us 10-20 spots for a lot of people. But I'm still pretty confident we'll finish in the top half of the conference.

I thought your coach would do more with what he had last year, but didn't. I thought several other SEC coaches outperformed him.

Yeah I mean his tallest starter was 6'6 and then Isaiah Joe missed several games down the stretch and we went like 1-5 without him. Ended up finishing exactly where we were projected but didn't get to see how we could have done in the NIT.

The expectations will be higher for him this year though. We just weren't a very deep team last year.

I do like your coach. I think he's good for Arkansas basketball.

With the huge covid increase this season is becoming more questionable by the day.
yep hard to get excited about it at this point - seeing so many FB games being cancelled -- the trash governor in Illinois aready cancelled the HS BB season -- top players are transferring to other states already
