Last week when I looked at the AP poll my Ducks had ONE (1) vote and Valpo, Baylor, and Utah all had lost to the Ducks and had many more votes.

Oregon with a 15-4 record and a #7 RPI were getting one lousy vote.

Yes, after beating ranked USC at home they are now in the top 25.

My point isn't really about the Ducks, it's more about how can this poll be so inaccurate? I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the rankings in this poll are really off.

Thoughts?

I've always been under the impression that the tournament committee cares about RPI but not the voters on the poll. That's about it as far as it goes.

Thanks, that was more of a rhetorical question. I'm just amazed at how out of it this poll seems to be. One would like a little credibility in polls that are held out as some sort of truth about how good various teams are.

its a catch 22 just like football. On one hand one could say that these 64 writers cant watch every game every week so they cannot accurately determine who is the best and rank them. Then the option is for a computer to rank them and the argument is a computer doesnt take into account all the other factors that are not data driven. Its a no win.

sportswriters should not even be able to vote for the HOF

I agree. A friend of mine is a former editor of a fairly large regional newspaper. He's also a Pulitzer Prize winner, so he has some "creds". One evening I had the pleasure of joining him and an author/journalist for drinks. They began discussing how journalists are "compensated" in today's markets. Basically the more "hits" they get on articles they publish, the more they get paid. So it's really about headlines grabbing attention and doing what ever it takes to get people to look at an article. That would explain why a local journalist who says controversial polarizing things without substance stays employed. People who don't like the guy still look at the articles and he gets paid for people hating him and what he writes.

This isn't the pool of "professionals" we want ranking any sport.
