And remember, it is no longer a part of the BCS formula

Which means it's now as valuable as tits on a boar hog.

Eh, I still will hold the AP poll as the most credible one out there. Coaches don't have enough time to pay full attention to everything else going on in the national scene, and the rest of the polls have some crazy formula that turns out all screwy most of the time. Then you've got the BCS. 'Nuff said there.

Yeah, the AP poll really doesnt mean anything any more.

Regardless of how accurate it may be it will be a meaningless exercise because it will have little influence in who is or isn't in the big game at sesason's end.

A matter of simple math.

I am still lining up for a playoff...settle it on the field involving the best teams in the country just like we do every other sport and at every other level...

Umm... is everyone forgetting split national championships or am I outside of the know on something? Can't we still have a split NC if the AP Champion differs from the BCS? The AP, being the oldest and generally most respected still carries enough weight to crown a National Champion doesn't it? LSU won the BCS in 2003, but EVERYBODY gives USC credit for 2 NCs in a row, including 2003 in which they only finished #1 in the AP - and #2 in the BCS.

I think they are just recognized as split national champions. You can call both LSU and USC 2003 national champs.

And yes, I still think whoever the AP crowns the national champ is the most important one. The poll isn't perfect, but can you name a better one out there?

As for the BCS, Fox just signed a big 5 year deal with them so we will have to deal with more of of the BCS's BS.

Yeah I am guessing the AP poll is more important. I dont like this new poll with former players on there. Seems like it is going to turn into heisman voting were the former winners vote for the players on there team to keep votes a way from other more deserving players. This new poll is going to be crap.

The Harris Poll? Well, there's always also the scare of Coaches voting for their school or voting just to boost their team's ranking. The main thing about that is they don't have to release their ballots. The AP voters do, or at least they do at the end of the year.

I also think I remember Steve Spurrier voting Duke top 25 or something. Let me know if that really happened or I am just on the pipe there.

Spurrier admits doing that every year, but just in the first preseason ballot. He does it as a way of recognizing them since they gave him his first head coaching job.

It's really harmless since it's just for the preseason poll.

As harmless as it might be, it still illustrates how subjective the voting process is - that any voter can vote however they feel without repercussions.
