Papa was a baaaad (in the best way) dude!

Phillip Cofer is an athletic 6’7 power forward out of Whitewater (GA). A 6’7 class of 2014 power forward for Team Georgia Elite, Cofer listed offers from Tennessee and Miami. In addition, he is hearing from Georgia, Memphis, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Southern. The two schools that offered, Tennessee and Miami, are the ones he feels are coming at him the hardest. Cofer, who has no timetable, listed Tennessee as his favorite, explaining that his parents both attended the SEC school. He has taken a visit to Tennessee and plans to try to get out to Miami as well.

There were two Mike Cofer's that played together in the late 70's-early 80's. Mike "Stop" Cofer played linebacker and Mike "Go" Cofer was tight end. IIRC, these guys were among the first Majors recruited to UT when he first arrived.

Mike "Stop" Cofer was a beast. Majors brought in some talent around that time. A couple of his brothers later played for us (Joe, ) but Mike had the most success. I hope we do get his son ... could he play 2 sports and be a DE also?

So ward called these guys stop and go while announcing? This was before my time, barely and don't remember much before 82.

No, I don't remember Ward doing that with any frequency. I do recall there existed the "stop" and "go" distinction, but they were seldom on field together and the DE became much more of a star, as I recall, so it became moot to actually have to distinguish very much, and say anything more than "tackle by Cofer."

Back in the 70's UT had two Mike Cofers, One a TE and other a DE. Hence Mike go Cofer and Mike stop Cofer. Majors' team. I can still remember John Ward calling their names. Stop had a Duke pass in his hands in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter; dropped it, and Steve Spurrier's Duke squad beat Tennessee at Neyland. Good old BAD DAYS. Bill Anderson "If he had held on to it, he could have walked in the end zone."

2014 PF Phil Cofer received offers from Cincy, Miami, Ole Miss, and Tennessee during July. UGA, GT showing interest. Vols early favorite.

First time I met Cofer I was scared. The dude looked like he would stomp you if you said something. I went with him and my friend Steve Knight to Burger King. Turns out he was very nice, those two threw down 6 Whoppers and about 10 pounds of fries.
