Democratic contenders for the POTUS besides Obama?

I seriously doubt it. If so, it would probably be someone so far left that they would have a snowball's chance in hell to win a general election.

I would like to see Hilary get in. That would make it interesting at least.

I honestly don't remember if anyone ran against Bush in 04 or against Clinton in 96 but it seems like there were.

The only complaints are coming from those who think he hasn't done enough -- and those are few and far between. No one in their right mind is going to challenge him.

I can see why no one would even with serious complaints. I just didn't remember if this was common or uncommon. Appears it is common.

I guess the last time it happened seriously was Kennedy opposing Carter in 1980.

The ultra liberal crowd could float a token candidate, but it wouldn't be a serious candidacy.

Has a primary challenger ever unseated a sitting president? I don't count Johnson dropping out in '68.

Me thinks that that was more desperation than anything. Carter would have lost to damn near anyone in '80. It just so happens that an extraordinarily good politician exacerbated the impending beat down. Obama is more popular now (meh) than Carter was at his pinnacle.

Can't think of anything in the modern era. And a Republican came out on top in '68. Would be willing to bet that Robert Kennedy would have sealed it though.

I think he would have won as well. I was mainly talking about a sitting president getting beat in the primaries. I don't know of any either. That speaks to the power of incumbantcy.

Can't really see who that would be. DemocraticUnderground heroes like Feingold and Weiner are dropping like flies.

there's always Dennis "the Menace" Kucinich

you're also going to have the Green Party crazies nominate a loon like Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader and siphon a few percentage points of the ultra left away from Obama.
