Thinking about how i wished UT would have done things differently at Florida and how the 1 loss is killing us always brings me back to the same old lament.

Are we ever going to get a playoff system in college football so teams like Utah cant run the table and get a BCS game while teams in the SEC sit out with 1 or 2 losses, and teams like Auburn dont get screwed?

It would be nice. Most of the fans want a playoff.

However, from everything I have heard I doubt it will happen, atleast not for a long time. The big boys in the NCAA don't want it to happen.

They keep saying the kids will miss too much class etc.. That is BS and everyone knows it. They want to keep it like it is because they think there is more money in it this way.

Go ahead and pull the trigger :banghead:

BUT:

All it would take is for the fans to boycott 1 year of college football, and they would come begging for the money again.....

OR:

The coaches from the BIG conferences, along with the AD needs to get their own branch similar to the NCAA, and tell them to stick it, and let them have Toledo vs San Diego St in the Rose Bowl....

for anything to change...it is going to take a sacrifice...

Its never gonna happen... Too much $$$ involved in the bowl games on every end from the networks, advertisers, stadiums, host cities and schools. The closest we will get are threads in online forums like this. So don't stage your own boycott and miss out on a season of college football.

We will never have a playoff system because it makes too much sense, and IA football has never been big on conventional wisdom.

If last years NC game debacle doesn't convince the powers that be, then nothing will.

The CFA needs to separate from the NCAA and establish a playoff system.

I would, just one year, like to see 5, 6, or 7 undefeated teams at the end of the year. Then everyone could see what a pile of junk the BCS really is.

Who would play for the whole ball of wax then?

I hope we never have it, because there are never more than 3 or 4 teams that deserve a shot at a NC...and usually it is the 2 that deserve to be there. I don't want some gay ass 8 team or 16 team bracket. That would mean that the regular season wouldn't matter because we could lose 2 or 3 games and wouldn't care. I want the times that we play big games to be for "all the marbles"........College Football is the only sport where the regular season is the best part and it is special for that reason. If there are ever playoffs in College Football, it would no longer be the sport I grew up with and fell in love with.
There already is a playoff.......I just don't want "playoffs"

HOLD OFF!! Put the gun down for just a second.

With the AP now decorating their own MNC, and since no mention of the BCS will be attached or given any credibility to any of their reporting, there is now a chance that one day, there will be a playoff.

Thge BCS was created so that all of the polls will come under one umbrella and everybody under it, agree on who is the one champion. Since AP is now out from under that umbrella, we are right back where we were in 1997 and before.

In other words, the BCS didnt do CRAP!!!! The only other alternative is to have a play off.

or go back to the way it used to be when College Football was perfect before they started screwing with it...

Its all smoke and mirrors. They feed us a line of BS saying they have a system that resembles playoff and it is not actually a playoff. Why are Division 1-AA and below able to have a playoff? I love a good cinderella team like the Cardiac pack of 1983 to win the playoffs.

if all conferences had conference champ games then the regular season would count, no trip to the CCG no trip to the play off, and no friggin' wild card teams like the pros, and independent teams would have to suck it up and join a friggin' conference

This is just my opinion, but I don't think it's fair for just Conf. Champs to go............What if the Vols are 11-0 and lose to a 7-4 Arkansas in the SEC championship game......that means we are 11-1 and don't get a shot at the Natl Champ. but Arkansas would? Even though we still have a better conference record and higher ranking......I just don't like it.... :dunno:
I don't like the playoffs thing at all, anyway they slice it.

But isnt that what makes playoffs exciting? The chance that an underdog can win...I'm sure you wouldn't be complaining if a 7-4 Tennessee team managed to get into the theoretical playoffs that you speak of. If the undefeated teams are so good then they should be able to handle the challenge of other playoff caliber teams, if they can't then they don't deserve to win the Nat'l Championship. I don't think it'll ever work out logistically with advertisers, and corporate influences and such, but I really wish they could develop a feasible playoff system.

That's probably going to be the next incarnation of the BCS. It would only require one additional game and the price tag for the TV rights would be astronomical, and we all know that is what drives the whole thing.

Who cares about conference champions? Conference champions would only determine a spot in the playoff system. Rankings would be also a determing factor, as in the BS (excuse me BCS). Traditional bowls would be venues for playoff games so the good old boys would still get their bucks. As has been stated before, if a school beats someone that they weren't expected to beat, then the loser should have played better. Just ask yourself if you would've been willing to never have seen Jim Valvano freak out after winning the NCAA basketball tournament...

With each BCS making roughly 14-15 million per team and there are 4 bcs bowls, the preseidents would not jeopardize losing that money for their team and conference so they can see an underdog TCU (for example) upset everyone in a playoff. The bowls are geared to higher conferences.
Plus the bowls and cities would want a share of the playoffs. I just cant see fans traveling across the USA every weekend until their team is done. They would have to have homegames to fill the stadium and only one neutral site for the championship game.
I wish there was a playoff but money talks.
