Doesn't look like things are lining up for that to happen. Then again, there have been so many disappointments across the board with highly touted recruits in the last few years that this might not be cause for concern.

If Fulmer underachieves with "top 5 talent" then can you imagine what will happen when he dosen't have that great talent? UH OH

My point was that you don't really know if it's top 5 talent until they start to play. Many players don't make the transition from high school stars to college standouts, despite being highly recruited.

That is the most intelligent thing I've ever heard a woman who isn't an ESPN employee say regarding sports. You are already light years ahead of most men on this board and around the world or over dramatize recruiting rankings.

I believe most allstar recruits are rb/qb/athletes. This is not what UT needs this year. I am tired of all the crying with this years recruits.

To answer the thread, no we are far from top 10. Rivals has us 38th with no 5 or 4 star commits. I have to agree that these ratings are very subjective and often prove way off.

Especially linemen... and who better than Phil to know how much some HS kid can bulk up over the summer and beyond. :)

No we won't be in the top ten this year nor we will be in the top 20. This is Fulmer's worst year in his tenure. I think we'll get a guy or two on signing day but we're no where near Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU (teams in our league - we're down there with Ole Piss, Piss St, Cant'ucky, Candy - thats where our program is headed - ship is slowly sinking). Some fans disagree they think our 10-4 season was great.

If Phil can't win with top five classes what we he do with a top 30 class?

He may become five loss Phil; taking over for four loss Phil

Have you ever posted anything positive on this Board.

It would take a miracle for us to land enough top-rated recruits at the last minute to move all the way into the top 10. I do suspect we'll move up some, though. Fulmer generally closes well.

That said, it's not really a big deal. UT has a habit of alternating top-10 classes and lower-rated classes, for a number of reasons. One is that UT has no in-state recruiting base and can't land a top 10 class in its backyard, like UF, UGA and LSU can. Another is that, as someone else said, this class has a lot of prospects at positions that don't dazzle the "recruiting gurus". And I trust Fulmer's judgments when it comes to offensive linemen. He was pretty damn good at it himself, so it would be strange if he didn't know what to look for.

Gerald Williams and Marlon Walls are 4 star guys.

Does not matter who you get. Top 100 or top 5, if they are not coached, they will waste away just like the ones before them.

We all know that the Stars a player has will not prove how good he will be. It takes dedication on the players part and GREAT Coaching to make them into a great Player.

For some odd reason, we were much more interested in star rankings last year than this year.

I agree and understand your point, but last year we were filling skill positions. IMO the stars have a much higher "translation rate" with running backs and receivers.
