This goes out to all those UT avid bball fans. What is everyone getting all excited about? I mean really it's just basketball and are we really that good. Yea so we beat Flordia, Kentucky and Texas, but are we really as good as we think we are. My personal opinion is that we are a very athletic ball club, but we're not going to win the SEC. I see us falling to just short of the goal, the NCAA Tourny. I am glad to see Chris Lofton playing well though and Bradshaw has really impressed me with his hustle. But again I can't see us succeding with Major walking up and down the floor. I just wanted to throw my opinion out there hopefully people will see what I'm talking about.

i think we stand a really good chance to make it to the sweet 16 and maybe further depending on where we are seeded. there is not a dominate team out there and if i were the big dogs i would not want to play the vols or west virginia. i'm excited :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :devilsmoke:

I was listening to a national sports radio show tonight and a caller asked if he thought UT could be a #1 seed. Seriously.

Unreal isn't it!? We all keep waiting for these guys to bow to conventional wisdom and drop a couple of games, but it just isn't happening so far.

We're going to the NCAA tournament.

And if you dont care about b-ball then why make a thread about it? Some of us like college basketball.

This team is GOOD.

I cant find the intelligence in vol crazy's post.

We're 18-3 with a pile of quality wins against the RPI top 50. Unless we somehow lose ALL of our remaining games, name me a scenario where we miss the tournament. :dunno:

We will make the dance that is a given at this point. I don't think we can win the SEC Tournament, but let's face it gang. We never gave them a chance to be where they are. So where do they end up in the Big Dance. It is more like a 4 or possibly a 3 seed, but who cares. They are in it and that’s ahead of schedule so let’s enjoy what we have.

Even with a collapse the rest of the season UT is in the tournament.

There is NO definite losses left on UT's schedule, with 6 games left at worst they are 3-3, at best 5-1. So 21-6 or 23-4 gets them in the Tourney no matter what happens in the SEC Tournament.

Hmm let's look at UF's schedule
At Vanderbilt
At Arkansas
Tennessee
At Alabama
Georgia
At Kentucky

Since UF is the only Team left that can win the East they could very well lose 3 more games since they do not play well outside Gainesville.

Now as for LSU and the rest of their schedule
Miss State
At Auburn
At Vanderbilt
Kentucky
At South Carolina
Ole Miss

LSU will probably only lose 1 more

All that leaves UT id a very good position to win the East and the SEC but they'll have to take care of business.

If anything, we're better than we think we are.

I agree. If anything we're overly cautious and waiting for this team to come back down to earth.

Your post doesn't make sense, man. 19 wins - we're into the tourny. Our wins so far would make up for losing from here on out.

Our goal this year was the NIT. Then it appeared we might have a chance at the NCAA. THEN it looked like maybe we'll place well in the SEC and do well at the tourny. Now it looks like we can win the East AND the Sec Regular season crown.

We're FAR FAR FAR above expectations, and we're getting all we can out of our players. Major walks up and down the floor because he plays 90% of the game. He's our only real Center. It's gonna wear on him after a while. But he hangs in there and still holds down the fort.

We beat top tier teams, so if we're really not that good, are they? And if they're not...who is?....

:dunno: Strange to me that a poster named "Vol Crazy" would leave a post like that. I, for one, have been dreaming of a coach and season like this since before I was even a student at UT, many moons ago. This team is good, plays with HEART where pure talent might be lacking, and has a coach that has endeared himself to the Nation of Orange. Dude, wake up and smell the coffee: basketball has arrived at UT, at long last, in the wake of a miserable football season. And I LOVE IT.

Nobody expected us to even be capable of making the Dance 2-3 months ago. . . now we're talking about a 2-, 3-, or 4 seed. Get to TBA, hit the SEC tourney, find a way to make it to the NCAA, if possible, and enjoy the magical run we are witnessing. It ain't a fluke: we've got a ridiculous home-streak going, we just beat Kentucky AT RUPP, and we are going to the big one.

Yeah, it does make you wonder when the first post is like that.

I guess being top 3 in the RPI isn't good enough to get to the dance these days... :dunno:

Idiot.

Vol Crazy:

Why don't you tell us which school you are really a fan of. Is it UF, KY or maybe another disgruntled Bama Fan. Either way the chances of you being a loyal Vol Fan are slim. Just my :twocents:

[I want to be the first to thank Doug Dickey for posting on this message board. Not much to do down in Jacksonville this time of year, eh?

How can someone say, "Are we really that good?" We beat #6 Texas, #2 Florida, and Kentucky at Rupp Arena. Given our schedule and the amount of quality teams we play, what more do you want? Would going undefeated suffice your doubts?

Dogpile on Vol crazy. Yes, they're at least as good as we think they are. Yes, they will win the SEC. Yes, they will make the NCAA. Finally, yes, they have a good chance of going to the Elite 8. Any more questions?

I know how Vol Crazy feels, it's just hard to believe we could have a basketball team that's so good, after so many seasons of mediocrity.

But if the football team were to go 11-1 next season, beating the #2 and #6 teams in the country, following this season's sub .500 effort, not one of us would be asking "Are we really that good?". Instead, We'd all be asking why didn't we do this last season.

I think the Vols basketball team has a little more talent than we all realized, and Pearl is a whole lot better at getting the most out of their potential than Buzz was. The future looks very bright for Vol Basketball.

I don't see any reason why we can't win the SEC tournament. It's at a neutural site, so LSU & Florida won't have the home court advantage and we are the fittest basketball team in the conference so the grueling pace of a tournament schedule should be an advantage to us in the later rounds.

I agree with the exception that I think we would be asking "what happened with that one loss? We could be going to the fiesta bowl."
