BP can't do anything right here.

If I were them I'd just keep my mouth shut, clean up the oil and pay the bill.

It's like people hating Obama. They focus on the stupidest and asinine things that don't matter, instead of focusing on the substantive issues that do. There are plenty of things to call out BP for. This is by no means one of them.

Why is it that politicians are constantly "fighting for the little" people.

However, no one ever complains about that. The dems/socialists have

been "fighting" for the little guy for years. Yep, they've done such a great

job with that. Dems should be tried for treason.

You think that either joevol or gsvol need a comprehensive or on-topic reason to bring up how much they hate Obama?

We can be talking about the Greek economy and we'll get a bandwidth sucking treatise complete with pictures, links, quotes and the kitchen sink about how the kenyan muslim hussein is going to socialize and islamify our children's freedoms from ole gsvol.

oh crap... everyone panic.

English is not his first language - plenty more to be bothered about than this comment IMHO

I'm not really bothered by it. I honestly just can't fathom what was going through his mind at the time. I don't care if English is his second language. He is obsviously not dumb and to make a statement like that during these times is absolutely ridiculous.

For the record, I am not calling out BP. I am calling out this guy who is probably worth billions basically calling the fisherman and people with actual 9-5 jobs small people. It's unforgivable and probably one of the most arrogant, stupid things I have ever heard.

if you replace 'small' with 'little' does it make more sense to you?

I don't think that should be levied as an excuse. I think it exemplifies perfectly an air of indignant arrogance that has been coming out of the BP camp since this all first started.

If the arrogance is imaginary than BP just sent someone with, apparently, a less than excellent grasp of the languange and it's semantics to be a spokesman for a multi-billion dollar gaffe.

Either way, it's a bit underwhelming and I can completely understand how some of the Gulf folks feel like they're being patronized here.

And if you are paying attention you would know this is not the first comment made by a BP billionaire that was arrogant and ridiculous.

You're being completely insensitive. Did you know that he had to cancel his families trip to their French Riviera summer house?

well then, sorry I interrupted your small thread. Continue your bashing of a non-English speaker messing up a commonly used US phrase

A spokesman for one of the biggest companies in the world that is addressing a people in their native tongue concerning probably what will be the worst oil spill in history that is directly affecting millions of people's way of life better know exactly what he is saying.

This is yet another slip-up and terrible PR by BP, regardless.

Why? Our Pres/VP/leaders do it all the time and they address a few people when they speak. Sure we poke fun at them but in the end we understand what they mean.

and this has nothing to do with how I feel about the company or the oil spill. Just saying that to let a small speaking/translation error in a statement completely override the substance is ridiculous.

The situation is far from equatable.
