It's common in houses these days to have a small, decorative piece of shingled roof at the bottom corners of a gable roof - like the house below. Is there a term for this feature? I have a red arrow pointing to it

“Useless silliness”? Do the almost-flush columns actually need that? And the pyramidal shape just looks bizarre (to me) tucked under steep front-facing gables. If the columns need protection above, make it little gables, same slope as the rest of the roof.

Of course, I think residential architecture went mostly to heck after the 1920’s, so mebbe I’m a bit biased. 🤓
