“Useless silliness”? Do the almost-flush columns actually need that? And the pyramidal shape just looks bizarre (to me) tucked under steep front-facing gables. No Google hits on “useless” and “silliness”? I am crushed!Thanks to @Ernest T. Vol and @malinoisvol . I looked up eyebrow and cornice. It seems the 3 most popular terms are cornice return, eave return and eyebrow return. With the word return common to all 3.
