I've never thought I could tell the difference and I was completely right.

Take the test and post your results...

How Well Can You Hear Audio Quality? : The Record : NPR

I was listening with Audio-Technica noise canceling headphones plugged into my MacBook Air using the Boom! application that enhances the sound quality.

I only got the 1 out of 6. The Mozart track and it was a complete guess. In fact 3 of my guesses were the 128kpbs.

Got four out of six, 2, 3, 5 and 6. No headphones. Background and bass sounded clearer to me.

How'd you score?

I coukd have sworn more people on here have claimed to tell a difference in audio quality. Maybe they didn't show well and are too ashamed to admit it.

I did get a chuckle in the comments people justifying low scores by saying the sample selection was bad.

I didn't take it yet, but I can guarantee you that I'm NOT an audiophile.

I'm glad I failed. Had I noticed a distinct difference I would have been compelled to start upgrading my music collection.

I tend to pick the 320 bit rate over the uncompressed .wav files. I am on a pretty crappy laptop though.

I will swear I can hear the difference in vacuum tubes all day long though! Not so much in a hi-fi system, but in guitar amps there is a noticeable difference between vintage US/British/German tubes and the crap from Russia and China.
