It's true.....Bruce and the gang will be carrying the torch for Tennessee again this year. I never thought that I would be more excited about the basketball season to start than the football season, but here it is.

Is Tennessee really becoming a basketball school?

It's great that Pearl has the Vols going in the right direction. I really think he can get a NCAA championship in a year or two. Once you start winning you can get kids to come to your program. Before Tennessee was not a basketball school. And he still is getting Tennessee to win. I klive in Kentucky about an hour from Knoxville and am a Vols fan. I hope we beat Kentucky 3 times this year. Twice during regular season and once in SEC tourney. Go VOLS

Yes, I think we are becoming a basketball school. Look at the last 5 years in both sports! Much more success in basketball than football.

I'm loving the success in basketball. Honestly, without it, these past few years would have been much more difficult to handle. I hope Pearl & Co. continue to improve, but I'd also dig seeing the football team catch up a bit.

i love pearl and the basketball team...but i wouldn't care if they never won another game if it meant that the football team would be winning championships again.

Nothing wrong with saying were a basketball school as well as a football school. Thats the goal isnt it. Hope we have continued success in b-ball and that our football team turns it around sooner than later. Bruce, hang in there for a couple years and we will dominate both sports!!

I gotta agree. If you consider 5 years a viable amount of time to assign a football and/or basketball school status, we're both right now (for the PRESENT. Don't get your panties in wads, traditionalists). I skimmed through the 2009-2010 Season Recap PDF on utsports.com and there were some interesting and impressive stats concerning the past 5 years.

To address the topic at hand, I'M VERY READY FOR SOME UT BASKETBALL!! I JUST GOT MY BLACK SCOTTY HOPSON JERSEY!!

PS, if anyone is interested in basketball jerseys, the new ones are AWESOME. They are actually true replicas. It may be hard to tell, but the adidas jerseys they've been selling the past 2 years are not really replicas; they look similar, but have fundamental design discrepancies. They only have the new ones in black at Sports Seasons and online right now, but they are awesome and I highly recommend it. GO VOLS!!

All are valid points, but I read an article on the ESPN website about the upcoming SEC football season. They didn't talk about Tennessee till the last paragragh, after they talked about vanderbilt.

Read any article about the upcoming SEC mens basketball season. Tennessee basketball is no longer on the back burner, they're a team nobody wants to play.

UT basketball will have a heck of a lot better win % than football this year but that trend only continues for another year after this, in my opinion. And that's not a negative against the bball team, it's a positive about the football team. I can't wait to have these two be equally successful and chasing national championships. We are going to be ridiculously athletic this year. Goins is hard nosed on both offense and D but how he handles the pressure of being THE floor general and making the best decision on each possession this year will dictate our success. Hopson should finally average about 15 a game this year if he can just keep himself composed. Golden and McRae will both get a lot of solid minutes this year and contribute at least 5 ppg. That's my hope anyways.

Check the football forum and the basketball forum and see what people like better. We're a football school.

5 years of consistent winning in basketball after years of crap combined with a few years of bad football isn't going to change the fact UT is a football school.

Now if this continued for the next 50 years...it's possible. But it would have to be big time winning in basketball and big time losing in football.

I guess we'll have to settle for winning in both...as soon as football gets its act together.

You sure have a lot more confidence than Hamilton does. Perhaps we could buy out the contracts of all teams on our schedule and play only in-state schools for the next couple of years.
