I don't think the Monroe Doctrine covers the Falklands, so I don't see any need for any US involvement here.

I spent three months in Buenos Aires and I swear the people there go ballistic over this. It's ridiculous. They need to get over it. It would be like as if Mexico still tried to claim Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, California, and Utah.

I remember anytime Kirchner's poll numbers got really low, she would immediately start something about the Falklands just to get her poll numbers back up. So I don't think anything will really come out of this.

As an Argentine friend of mine put it, "You can't be Argentinean if you don't like to complain about anything and everything."

Don't the residents of the Falkand Islands actually want to be British citizens?

The residents of the Falkland Islands are almost exclusively immigrants from England and Scotland.

They have absolutely no desire to be controlled by Argentina.

They have about as much in common with the people of Argentina as the people of Iceland have in common with Morrocans.

It's too bad our present administration seems to be siding with Argentina.
