Currently watching Arizona play and you csn tell they have a solid team.

Going to be a fun match up next week!

Their center has that hook shot down!

I got the Vols winning in a classic double OT!

Gonna be a very tough task. Our first true road game. So far we have struggled against the Pac-12. Gonna be the toughest challenge of the season so far. Of course, gotta focus on the Terps for now.

We have really struggled more against the Big Ten which has bounced us out of many previous NCAA Tournaments.

Tennessee is 24-37 against the Big Ten entering today's game against Maryland and other than Alabama and Kentucky, we do not face a lot of consistently physical teams in the SEC which is what the Big Ten is.

After watching the second half of today’s game against Maryland, I hope this is the practice agenda every day this week before we fly to AZ:

First hour: free throws. Any player who doesn’t make at least five in a row, runs laps.
Second hour: run laps.
Third hour +: practice for AZ.

Free time after practice: free throw practice.

Team goal for the week: 80 percent free throw percentage.

We certainly don't shy away from competition.

Difference between practicing free throws and shooting free throws in a game is that the players are often winded in a game. They need to practice their free throws the same way. They also need to have a routine so they focus on the routine rather than the situation. Ernie Grunfeld comes to mind.

The timing of this game is terrible. Santi has shoulder issues, and probably shouldn’t have played against Maryland. JJJ can’t get through a full workout without getting fluid on his knee. We really don’t want one of these guys to drop out for the year right now. Bobby Knight used to say injuries are contagious. He meant that when you cover one injury by leaning on another player in minutes, you hurt them too. I’m sure Barnes has a plan, and it’s better than mine, but I hope we protect those two as much as we can this week, and let the holiday break heal them more. Shoulders and knees are fragile things.

Since we won that game I’m not playing Santi or JJJ until conference play, give them the 2.5 weeks to try and get right, likely last extended break opportunity we will have for them.

Last year when we played them at TBA Fulky had what was his best game for last year and was a big reason for the W. We'll have to play tough D at their place and need someone to step up and have a big game or collectively all have strong game. GBO!

Totally agree with this. Obviously you play to win the game but a road loss to Arizona isn't gonna hurt us in the long run. Also opens up some minutes for Mashack, Awaka, and possibly even Edwards vs. a top ten opponent.

Could even hold them out until January 3 at home against MSU. Ole Miss is a decent team, but we can beat them with one or two out. That would be over 3 weeks off.

Our offense better show up. I think we’re currently overrated, need Phillips to step up and Urois on the bench.

If Santi and Jo can go, they need to play. The reason they haven't looked very good returning from injury is because they're barely playing or practicing for a week or more at a time. Santi seems fine given he just played 37 minutes last game. The 3 point shot was a little rusty, but that's to be expected. He had a fantastic defensive game though.

I kind of agree. I think we’re a bit overrated by the computer models, but also underrated by our own fans who are just waiting for the other show to drop based on our offense without realizing how historically good our defense has been.

We’ve played 10 games and have given up 50 points or less to 7 of our opponents. We held Kansas to 50…they average 79.4 ppg. We held Maryland to 53…they had been averaging 78.3 ppg.

I think Houston and Alabama are better than us, right now. Texas and UCONN might be. Purdue, maybe. We will struggle with teams that have length on the perimeter and elite athleticism.

I have never seen a true b-ball coach who doesn’t practice FTs when players are tired. That’s a normal part of practice routines…always.

He was clutching his shoulder late in the game.
As others have said, I'd prefer holding him and JJJ out until January. The Maryland and Kansas wins are quality OOC wins, even with a loss to 'Zona.

Yes, Barnes himself said Santi called the timeout because he hurt his shoulder. Shoulder injuries are concerning.

I think we played Santi too much anyway. I thought Mashack was playing well in his minutes, yet he kept getting sent to the bench. I figured he would play more with Santi coming back from injury and Jo out for this one (and with Phillips struggling to make open layups).
