Arizona gets it right again

What an idiotic idea and what a misleading title. The bill is banning those courses that advocate separatism and racism and I would assume that's across the board.

Stupid article, stupid idea.

Good to see the old pendulum principle is alive and well.

Very misleading title...

The new bill would make it illegal for a school district to teach any courses that promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or "advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals."

The bill stipulates that courses can continue to be taught for Native American pupils in compliance with federal law and does not prohibit English as a second language classes. It also does not prohibit the teaching of the Holocaust or other cases of genocide.

...now queue the dimwits who will protest saying this is racist.

agreed on the mandatory. I'm all for a rounded education, but the nature of those courses just makes them worthless.

I believe this is for HS. No need to even give them the option before college.

i actually had an ethnic studies prof tell me that she believed all white people were racist (even if they didn't realize it). and no i'm not joking. i told her that is the most racist statement i've ever heard. she didn't find that humorous.

thank goodness she's an educator. Unfortunately, loonies like her are as much the norm in higher esoteric education as anything else.

my other favorite moment was when she asked people what prop 39 was. a black guy raised his hand and said "it's a bill to ban illegal immigrants from using our schools and hospitals." Her response was "that is one interpretation." Apparently the answer she was looking for was "it's a bill created by a bunch of racists."

once you got that figured out seems like it would be an easy A

every answer: "it was a _______ created by racists"

in some ways the class was pretty illuminating actually. not in the way she wanted it to be though. sometimes it's helpful to know the arguments of your enemies.

I had an "ethnic studies" guy that tried the hallowed argument that every modern invention was taken from Africa in a grand conspiracy by whites to keep minorities down.

Between fits of laughter I started to feel sorry for this guy.

You should hear what I tell my students :)
