He couldn't recruit OL, and couldn't develop anyone--whether as players or as physical specimens. It sounded as though he also had some integrity issues, so couldn't keep the locker room. His biggest failure to me was player development and strength and conditioning. He got the players needed to win here, but they didn't get better or stronger and got hurt all the time. Once he fired Lawson it was the beginning of the end.
Coaches look a ton better when they have the dudes necessary to play that are ready to play. Pruitt is doing this and it is noticeable.
What really happened with Taggart? How do you fire a guy in year 2 before the season is even over?
Honestly I think there is more been going on in Tallahassee than has been revealed. From 2012-2016 Florida State was a powerhouse. That includes 2 BCS bowls which includes winning the 2013 BCS, three New Years 6 games from 2014-2016 which includes a semi-final berth in 2014. 2017 rolls along and suddenly they have turned to garbage. It is so bad that they had to make up a game in order to get bowl eligible. I know Francois getting injured probably contributed a little bit to their woes but you would think it would not have been this bad. As if 2017 could not get weirder, it does when Jimbo Fisher announces that he is leaving Florida State. Had it been for the NFL it would have made sense, instead he was leaving for Texas A&M. Not only did he leave but he left a mess.
Taggart comes in and rather than being given a chance he is shown the door. I am curious to see what unfolds next for Florida State. If they snag a big name coach (i.e. Meyer) then I can understand firing Taggart. However if it is a lackluster hire then it will further my suspicions about something going on at FSU.
FSU isn't the dumpster fire everyone thinks it is. It's bad, but not that bad. Loads of talent and a quick fix like UF.It will be a lackluster hire and their facilities are below par. No name is going in to the dumpster fire FSU has become. They're so bad there's no where to go but up and a no name can succeed. The school and location recruits itself for top flight players. Jimbo at T A&M has to start doing something after this year as that school does not tolerate mediocrity and fires coaches et will as well. If I'm USC and Meyer isn't coming I go backdoor and pickup Jimbo from the Aggies on the low.
Hey I don't care to what poor school he goes to, I just hope he makes $4 million and year and gets off our payroll.
I could see him as a future head coach somewhere like Appalachian State or Georgia Southern when either one of them may be looking for another head football coachFor all the Lyle-hate, I think those of you wishing him the worst will be surprised. I think he learned from Saban so won't recruit undersized linemen and RBs. I don't know if he'll win at Arky, being the SECw and all. But he might have a decent season now and then before he either leaves or they dump him. In the end, I think he'll wind up at the UMass or William & Mary.
