2010 - Steve Roberts - (4-8)(4-4) ** OC Hugh Freeze**

2011 - Hugh Freeze - (10-3)(8-0) ** new OC and DC **

2012 - Gus Malzhahn - (10 -3)(7-1)** new OC and DC **

2013 - Bryan Harsin (7-5)(5-2) ** DC Tompson 2nd yr **

Not sure if stability of the SAME coaches is needed. It's the stability of the BEST ones that count.

It also helps when you play in a cupcake conference with a cupcake schedule.

They are a cupcake themselves, so they are on equal footing. The argument can't be made that a coach's success in the little east will equate to similar success in the SEC based on his talent level being equal to the teams around him without this same principle applying to arky st. The little east is stronger than the sunbelt, but a sunbelt team playing a sunbelt schedule faces the same issues a little east team playing a little east schedule. It does come down to quality coaching.

No, it comes down to quality scheduling. Name one team Butch "should have" defeated this season, but didn't.

Vandy!!! Ding, ding, ding - winner, or so everyone seems to say. We should have beaten them (with a true freshman backup QB and the entire offensive battery from last year playing on Sunday) despite the fact they are 8-4 and bowling for how many consecutive years now, with a coach who's being mentioned in the same sentence as USC, etc coaching vacancies.

We lost to exactly 2 teams who were not in the top 10 at the time, and one was in the Swamp. But by all means, please continue to point to Ark St.'s record as proof that Butch sucks.

PS. How many 11th ranked teams did Ark St. defeat during the cited time period?

PPS. Gus Malzahn is an offensive genius. I have NO trouble admitting that Butch hopes to someday be the coach Gus is.

True. Which makes it puzzling why he was not interviewed for our job opening last season. In fact, nearly all of VN was against that possibility during the search. That does not mean we do not have the right guy as our HC because it appears we may. But to pass on at least interviewing a guy with proven, innovative offensive skills that was wearing an NC ring was silly. Being a Bama guy Hart more than likely passed because Gus was at Auburn previously.

I honestly don't think Arky St. is worth a mention on Volnation.

Yeah, what does this have to do with VN? Wait, a former QB that was from TN is now a starter for another SEC school that should have been recruited here not once but twice by two different UT head coaches and if we'd had him last two seasons we'd been winners?

I will say this, as far as scheduling you speak of, Vandy would be 5-7 had Florida Georgia and UT (Worley) been healthy. So that 8-4 and beat all 3 rivals is skewed.

It is not stability but they make good hires who are attractive to bigger schools when they have openings. Look at what Freeze has done at Ole Miss, Malzahn at Auburn. Their last coach was a player and career assistant at Boise St. so it was natural for him to leave and go home when Boise came calling. If they hire John Thompson, no one is going to want him so he will be there until they fire him.

True, but your point does support his main argument, which is that we had to play Vandy (who had a pretty good senior QB with an All-World target to throw it) with an 18 year old true freshman QB who did not have his best target available (North) for over 3 quarters, and the rest, other than Pig, who seem to treat a football as if it was infected with the ecoli virus.

See, right there is why we still need Dooley as coach. His players could fearlessly haul in the infected passes, because they had been expertly trained in the effective use of a post-game shower.

I never said anyone sucks. Looks like you're a little defensive today, or maybe everyday for that matter. I think it is funny how some claim Butch is a winner based on his success at Cincy which will translate immediately to the SEC, yet say the point the op makes isn't valid due to arky st being a cupcake. If anyone wants to point to a record of a coach sucking, it would be easier to point to 5-7 than any of the last several years at arky st. Interesting point by the op concerning the issue of coaching turnover being married to success, and while I don't think Butch sucks, I also don't think he is the second coming as many seem to. Time will tell if he will be successful, but right now he still has a lot of work to do. But, AV, to your point about scheduling, this is the SEC. If you're going to use strength of scheduling as an excuse, you may want to go find a nice little ten team to root for. I hear Urban may have some room on the bandwagon for you.
