FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Darren McFadden, a Razorback tailback chosen for first-team All-SEC honors, has undergone surgery on a joint in his toe and is "doubtful" for Arkansas' season opener against Southern California on Sept. 2, Coach Houston Nutt said Saturday.

McFadden suffered an open dislocation of the distal IP joint of his big left toe, according to a news release. The sophomore underwent surgery early Saturday morning in Little Rock to repair the capsule surrounding a joint. Also, a small pin was inserted in the joint to stabilize it.

Arkansas trainer Dean Weber said McFadden will not practice for several weeks and is unlikely to compete against USC.

McFadden rushed for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, becoming the seventh freshman in Southeastern Conference history to run for 1,000 yards.

It wasn't gonna happen anyways... Something to me feels like he's pulling a DeAngelo Williams.

If McFadden is out, things change a whole bunch for the Hogs. Jones is very good, too, but I think the dual-headed attack was going to hide their weakness at QB. Without two studs, they may be in trouble.

Casey Dick is a decent QB. Mustain should start, but I think he'll be redshirted

I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure your big toes have alot to do with your balance.

Word. That's why they're big. Other animals don't have one really large toe. It's very important for bipedalism.

This is probably one of my top 5 favorite posts ever.

Has it not occured to anybody else he might be pulling a DeAngelo Williams?

I don't know why I don't know what that means, but what is that?

Why would anyone be afraid of USC's defense? If he was a corner and had to cover Jarrett or one of their other future NFL players maybe, but I can't imagine any decent offensive player passing up an opportunity against that defense.

When Williams didn't play against us last season... I think he might have wussed out.

I don't think he wussed out. When you have one player that is your entire team, it's important to keep him healthy, even if it means taking a game off. Had he been able to play, however, I'm not sure we would have won. Neither our defense or offense looked to hot in that game. But I think if DeAngelo had played, the D would have elevated their play just enough to pull out another close win.

We were already down at that point, it was late in the season. hatvol's probably right though, we still had an intimidating front 7 last season, even as bad as we were. But still, Memphis beating Tennessee would have been bigger than any bowl game they could have won.

Milo, why would he get a case of the yellowback against SC? Wouldn't he try to avoid LSU, Auburn, or Alabama all of whom have better defenses than the Trojans?
