Yeah there have been issues with the ammo for a while but the disturbing thing is that these things had overheating issues not too long ago yet are being sent to a desert .

The Irreconcilables: The Haqqani Network | Institute for the Study of War

As the Karzai administration continues to press ahead with preliminary outreach to insurgents, Pakistan has quietly stepped in to offer their assistance.

The Pakistanis have reportedly offered to help reach out to the murderous Haqqani organization in the hopes of bringing the movement’s leader, Siraj Haqqani, to the negotiating table; however, any proposed deal with the Haqqanis is directly at odds with President Obama’s reaffirmed commitment to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Haqqanis rely on Al Qaeda for mass appeal, funding, resources and training, and in return provide Al Qaeda with shelter, protection and a means to strike foreign forces in Afghanistan and beyond. Any negotiated settlement with the Haqqanis threatens to undermine the raison d’etre for U.S. involvement in Afghanistan over the past decade.

While we approved the new round, we canceled the new rifle.

Spec Ops Command Cancels New Rifle

In a surprising reversal that follows years of effort to design a one-of-a-kind commando rifle, the U.S. military's Special Operations Command has abruptly decided to abandon the new SOCOM Combat Assault rifle – the "SCAR," as the rifle is commonly known – in favor of previously-fielded carbines.
-------------------------------------

News of the cancellation of the Mk-16 variant of the SCAR is a major reversal for a command that spent six years and millions of dollars fielding a rifle specifically made for use by special operators. It was the first rifle since the M-16 that was competed, tested, and built from the ground up for the military.

This cancellation will certainly be poorly received by program advocates who touted the weapon's mission flexibility, better gas piston operating system, and performance in dusty environments as clear advantages over the current M-4.
-----------------------------

Ironically, the company announced May 4 that it had passed the final hurdle from SOCOM's weapons buying office to go into full production and fielding of both the Mk-16 and Mk-17. It is unclear if SOCOM had made the decision to cancel their buy of the Mk-16 when FNH-USA issued that announcement

I think we should just start throwing flowers. Maybe those thorny weeds, that'll irritate them.

I wonder if the soldiers have to pay more for green bullets. According to a truck driver I spoke to last night who had gotten back from his second tour in Afghanistan in Obama's military the soldier buys much of his equipment outta his own pocket.

depends on which equipment you're talking about. Much of the personal gear, the soldier buys.

Right my point though is I haven't seen a drop in what soldiers are being issued. They actually get issued stuff that I wouldn't have even dreamed of getting when I was still in.
