Just curious...you guys know more about recruiting rankings and such than I do. What type of players do both these teams get as far as the ranking sevices go. I doubt they get any 4* or 5*...do they get any 3*? In my mind all these kids are 5* just because of their service to this country...

Army is ranked 102 by rivals and has 2 3stars.
Navy is ranked 119 with no 3 stars.
Air Force is ranked 91 with 1 3 star.

It seems Navy has gone to a bowl game for the last few years...not a big bowl but one just the same. I would think their coach Ken(can't spell it) would be on some short lists but Paul Johnson was very successful there and hasn't really had the same success at GT as he did at Navy...

48-31 overall, 31-17 in conference. 1 BCS bowl appearance. A bowl game every year. Not too bad

What he said. Though technically not free. You have a service obligation upon graduating

Yep. Five years active and three years reserves commitment upon graduation.

And most who graduate from West Point, and many from Annapolis and the USAFA, will be deployed overseas within a year after they graduate.

Of course, they all know that going in, so it is not a surprise. Young men and women who accept the challenge of one of the service academies know what they are signing up for when they enter.

We typically get a few cadets assigned to our battalion during the summer each year, sort of an intern thing. Never a football player, but always interesting to note how all in all, they're still just kids. That's not a knock on West Point, but I think people see some sort of extra ordinary feats out of Cadets (and Officers in general), but generally speaking, they're just people just as prone to mistake as anyone. They always flip out when I tell them I have a Master's Degree and I'm just a weenie little enlisted guy.

I noticed that, how young they seemed, and hell at the time i was more or less the same age.

The time demands and the grueling academic and training schedules Cadets (West Point and USAFA) and Middies have to maintain are incredible. You can downplay them all you want, but what they do on a daily basis isn't on the same planet as it is with students attending State U or a private liberal arts college. I've had one child attend a state university and one attend a Service Academy. Simply not even in the same conversation. Yes, they are just "kids" going in, but they don't last long at the Service Academies unless they grow up quickly.

I never talked about their schedule. But I've watched over a dozen Seniors to be come through our Battalion the past two years and all of them were pure kids still very wet behind the ears.
