Article on Deion Sanders : Hype Train Is Probably About to Derail

The hype train is baked in for a while at this point.
Winning 3 games in a row is borderline unbelievable considering where Colorado started the day he arrived.
Winning 6 games is Coach of the Year material IMO.
If Colorado keeps him beyond next year, that would also be unbelievable.

He is gone when his son goes to the Draft. It may even be this season, though Deion said neither of his sons are leaving Colorado for the Draft after this season. We'll see.

The article is wrong . The hype train isn’t
derailing, it’s going to probably slowdown for a little bit, but it will be back full force in early December and February. It will certainly be full steam ahead next August. The goal was never this year, but seeing what could happen down the road. I’m honestly hoping Deion sticks around Colorado for a little while. While I haven’t always agreed with how he promotes himself, going all the way back to his time in the NFL, it would be an amazing thing to see him stay and build up a program that has been dormant since he played for the Braves or Falcons.

I wonder whether Prime will want to coach after his sons are gone. Head coach of a power 5 school is 3 full time jobs with little to no down time. Prime likes all the camera action he's getting now, and he's gotten both his sons into the NFL with high draft stock, but come April after they are gone does he have the love of football to stick with it? He didn't when he was a player, he always had baseball too.

Truer words never spoken:

And a person “only casually sort of paying attention,” as it turns out, is precisely the only sort of college football fan television networks care about right now. Sanders’s story is an irresistible one, but his commitment to the sport itself seems fleeting at best.

Deion Sanders is going to do whatever it takes to get himself, and also occasionally his team, talked about. Right now, he’s doing that in the world of college football. Soon, it’ll be somewhere else. College football is trying to soak up every bit of oxygen he can provide, but his story is not one of salvation for college football. It’s a symptom of a bigger problem — a problem that someday is going to kill it.

What exactly does "commitment to the sport itself" mean, and why doesn't he have one? Because he's a prolific user of the Portal?

Deion's only commitment is to win games and make money for the University of Colorado.

Exactly! Deions living proof of the saying "Don't hate the player, hate the game"... He's taken full advantage of the rules in place. While you might disagree with it, and not like his attitude,he's not doing anything wrong.

Deion relies heavily on his staff, they are doing the groundwork and if it depends on him doing it he is in trouble. Deion won't do the grunt work, he is the spokesperson.

All head coaches rely heavily on their staff, and should. A huge component of their job is hiring and managing good people around them.

Let's see what happens with them once they start losing games. It's coming. The shine probably wears off real quick..

Deion relies on them like a queen depends on her handmaidens and ministers. Just look good and show up for public events. He probably doesn't know half his players.

What's wrong with that? Deion knows what he strengths are. Recruiting and being the face of the program. He hired a fairly highly thought of OC who has come in and put up a bunch of points. Also brought on a DC who has been around big programs. You're saying he relies a lot of his staff...I mean, no ****. All HCs do. Seems like you're hunting for ways to downplay what he's done so far.

The real test for them will be how they react when they get their teeth kicked in a few times. Deion's style and persona is only cool if he's winning a bunch. If you lose some games, especially in blowouts, and act like that all of a sudden you just look like a fool.

That is why it is so interesting how he reacts to the next two games.

I don't care what he does one way or the other since it's not really relevant to us or the SEC other than recruiting. I have defended him on occasion because he took over an absolute trainwreck (even at our absolute lowest we never went 1-10 like the Buffs did last year), and he has them playing hard.

I do find some amusement in a lot of folks on different fanboards in the SEC that seem to be actively rooting for him to fail. I mean... none of us should have an aching hatred of the Colorado program. They didn't hire Lane Kiffin out from under us, didn't embarrass us on the field like Oregon (who have some of the best fans and I have no beef with their school), they haven't denied us a spot in the college football hierarchy... They have sucked for the last 3 decades.

Now they hire a flashy, loud mouthed coach who knows how to motivate his players. Usually when we see something like that happen, we are talking about potentially putting him on the list of coaches we wanted to hire over the last few cycles. We are in a stable position now and aren't looking, but the amount of ire Colorado seems to be generating this year is somewhat baffling. Why should I care other than noticing that he has them winning so good for them?

Many are rooting for him to fail because Deion embraces the recent changes in the game they don't like, namely the Portal. That's where the vast majority of it comes from.

I also wouldn't deny that there is a racial component to it for some - he's a very loud, flashy, cocky black guy - although many folks at the HBCUs disliked the flash when he was at Jackson St too. He definitely isn't for everyone.

Idiotic-Deon somehow sucks because he’s playing in the toughest conference in football this year with a team he flipped and somehow managed to go 3-0 while resurrecting a dead program.

I know teams that can’t win as favorites on the road.
