you should watch the most recent 30 For 30 on Paul Westhead and his Loyola Marymount team. I know a lot of you are too young to remember, but I clearly remember the day Hank Gathers died. I also remember the chaos and the crap storm that followed in terms of lawsuits and bad publicity. I've heard talk that a lower level team might grant Negedu a waiver, which, to me, is unconscionable. I wouldn't want to see a Gathers type situation (nor a Reggie Lewis deal, which I also remember very clearly) for Emmanuel or UT basketball essentially ruined for years.

But, this 30 For 30 stuff is really good. I can't wait for the Iverson Trial documentary next week regarding his high school brawl (I wonder if they'l touch on Kevin Garnett's fight as well).

The U is my favorite so far. Forgot how crazy things were with them.

The U was a good one, but I was completely ticked off that it was, basically, a hagiography of those guys. They didn't even mention the 1986 Sugar Bowl, which was a fairly big deal. I would've loved to have seen, in terms of balancing the story, a UT player discussing the Miami trash talk and how it fueled them to a Big Easy spanking. After watching "The U", you would think no one could ever win a game without being a total punk the way they presented it.

As a big soccer fan, I'm also looking forward to the Andres Escobar one. A lot of good stuff from that series.

The 30 for 30 series is pretty entertaining. I didn't get to see the Gathers one

I liked the U episode as well, but I really liked the behind the scenes look at the Wayne Gretzky trade from Edmonton to L.A.

The latest on was much better than previous efforts IMO.

Very sad and tragic what happened to Hank.

Geez...great word (and I agree...very appropriate). When was the last time you needed a dictionary to read VolNation.

Negedu still plays basketball in practice and at TRECS. Just not with the team. Really dangerous decision on his part IMO.

I remember that as well like it was yesterday. If I remember correctly, didnt they make it deep in the tourney that year after Gathers died? I still remember Bo Kimble shooting those free throws left handed in gathers memory.

Lost to eventual champ UNLV...had a great run.

If he did I see no problem with him playing some ball. As long as he gives the leads long enough to develop scar tissue around them then he should be ok. Now if that thing goes off while he is playing, it might drop him for a moment but it will save his life.

Agreed. But some of the stuff they would do/say was pretty funny....

Convicts vs. Catholics = no win situation (I wish)

Yeah, I just hate the way they act like they invented college football when they were as irrelevant as it gets prior to the '80s.

Yes, they had a heck of a run. They were set to be about a 4 or 5 seed, but the NCAA gave them the "Kenyon Martin treatment" and dropped them to an 11. They upset a very good New Mexico State team in the first round, and then absolutely destroyed Michigan, the defending national champions, 149-115, to reach the Sweet 16. I still remember the score. It was like everything came out emotionally for them that day. An NBA team would have had their hands full.

The next weekend, Wimp Sanderson had Alabama run a stall game on them, and they had them beat with five minutes to go, but then Loyola hit some shots and 'Bama folded down the stretch. I think that one ended 62-60.

Vegas was just Vegas. Loyola had played them tough back in November with Gathers. Without him, it was a terrible matchup for them; they got killed on the boards. If UNLV missed a shot, they just kept getting it back until they scored. They won 131-101.

ICD Implant

Tennessee senior associate athletic trainer Chad Newman has reported that basketball player Emmanuel Negedu had a sub-pectoral implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) implanted in his chest Tuesday morning at UT Medical Center and is doing well.

Negedu Undergoes ICD Implant Procedure, Will Not Play for Vols During 2009-10 Season - TENNESSEE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
Thanks. I thought I remembered him getting an ICD. I say if he wants to play ball somewhere, let him play.
