We are ahead of schedule.

We don't even have the blue chip ratio and we're still in the CFB playoff discussion. Was Saturday disappointing? Absolutely. However, Heup is a victim of his own success. From a talent perspective, we are below Florida and Oklahoma!

We rank #17 in overall talent. Right now, UGA and Bama have more dudes. We're closing the gap on the field and recruiting trail.

Behind in talent means it’s a mixed bag for Heupel - the argument you are making is that he is getting more out of his players than most schools. That’s great for sure, but also points to a need to recruit a top 5 class at least 3 out of every 4 years to consistently compete at the highest level

I remember what Kirby inherited compared to what Heupel inherited.

I'm not arguing with you, just saying I'm fine with the direction we're headed in.

For sure. The direction is the right one and Heupel is the best post-Fulmer hire we’ve had by a wide margin. I’m just saying the next step is elite recruiting - his last 2 classes finished 11th and 13th. That won’t cut it long term

As a fan, it's hard to step back to look at the overall build of the program during the season. We get so caught up in every aspect from game to game or play to play, at least I know I'm guilty of that. I have to constantly remind myself that we don't exist in a vacuum and other teams make changes and sign players too. So even when we make progress, other teams are working to shore up their teams.
The good sign is that we do have a quarterback that looks to have the ability to take a huge step going forward (year 2 and on) and we have continued to move up the recruiting board.

Not saying you're wrong only I don't know. Things are changing and will continue to change with the portal and NIL. How anyone can say anything definitely right now is bold imo.

I'm just trying to enjoy the ride.

Edit: I'll also add I don't think everything is perfect and we don't need some major improvements. And I didn't mean I wouldn't like to see recruiting get better.

To me, the days of stacking your program with 4 and 5 star talent are dwindling away. That's why Saban went away and Georgia is already beatable. With NIL money, conference consolidation and the transfer portal, you need to be able to take the guys you get and win NOW. Heupel has done a pretty good job of this but he seems to have cought BSD (Bob Stoops Disease) and cannot get the wins at the end of the year that seal the deal for a playoff spot.

The emphasis needs to be on his system and making good players look like Heisman players with scheme and execution. Recruiting is going to be a PITA from here on out

Agree…that being said, stacking the trenches and QB room is an equalizer. I imagine Nico will continue to grow. Next year important to see the next leap, but QB room is going to be stacked, and is, outside of consistent top 5 classes, the other biggest opportunity to sustain success.

Going to be hard to have a bunch of studs riding pine these days. That's where you find out what kind of coach you have. Every team has deficencies every year. It's going to be hard to ever out recruit teams like UGA, Bama , UF from the highschool ranks. Going too have to find a gem or two in the portal and make sure your NIL is really good.
