Greg McElroy got cut today. Once again shows that Saban cannot put a successful QB in the NFL. In other news, Matt Simms recently had a great night for the Jets and Tyler Bray made the Chiefs.

Our last two QBs are doing well, Bamas are unemployed.

GMac was 2-0 against Tennessee.

Simms and Bray combined to go 0-forever against Alabama.

If the NFL makes you feel better about your college team, then congrats on the emotional lift.

How does any of that prove Bama sucks? If you consider being a backup successful, then Bama has done about as well as UT since Manning.

You have chosen an odd measuring stick to judge the coaching of Saban and quality of the Alabama football team. I would suggest that until we start winning some of the games against them that we refrain from talking smack about the quality of their program.

Only thing it proves is that GMR and every other QB, and probably McCarron, are just game managers and the media hype about them being great QBs are just that, hype. Bama itself is still really good.

Sorry.

Success or failure of former Bama players at the next level determines whether or nor Bama's football program sucks?

Yeah, no.

Yeah, no.

Not only that, but he doesn't even make sense in his comparison. I guess for UT, having backups in the NFL = success but Alabama having backups in the NFL doesn't.

McElroy was a backup for 2 years, and Brodie Croyle was a backup for about 5-6 years. John Parker Wilson spent 2 seasons on the Falcons' practice squad.

Since Manning, Tee Martin was a backup a few seasons, Ainge was a Jet about 3 seasons, Crompton spent a little time on 2 practice squads, and now Simms and Bray are backups.

So I'm not seeing much of a difference. Not to mention, we're talking about backup QBs in the first place.

Sorry guys, I should have clarified. Basically, my point was that Bama has a sucky reputation of producing successful NFL QBs. Yes they beat us and everyone. I'm just thinking about it from a recruiting standpoint, that UT QBs are having more success than Bama even though Bama has been amazingly successful.

Obviously my thread title was not well thought out. My apologies.

I'm not sure bragging about having a few more backup QBs in the NFL is going to do much.

The OP actually has a point. From a QB perspective, Bama is pretty average with respect to everyone else. They aren't world beaters, they are just surrounded by superior talent. The offense isn't even complicated. All the talk of McCarron for heisman, and ESPN being all over his jock is just that, hype. McCarron is no different than most QB's, other than the fact that he has an easier job when it comes to winning, because everyone else around him are the work horses.

Maybe, but I still don't see that adding up to some huge recruiting advantage, which was the point OP was trying to make.

I hate Bama with a passion that can't be described, but this thread is absolutely moronic. Bama doesn't pay Nick Saban to have successful QBs in the NFL, they pay him to have successful QBs at Alabama and at present he's doing a damn good job of it.

Everyone knows Alabamas defense pays the bills. NS could hire me as an OC and I'd win.

Good grief, the OP is pathetic. College and NFL are 2 different things. Using the NFL to measure success on the college level is crazy.

As far as recruiting goes, I don't see how it matters. I agree that all top QB's dream of getting to the NFL. However, if a kid were to say that he was going to UT because that gave him the best chance to get to the NFL he would be ripped for using UT to get to the NFL and not being a "VFL."

And back to the OP, you're only talking about back-ups.

This is what I don't get, no offense to backup QBs, but not many people really care about them much. Other than Peyton Manning, we really don't have an NFL QB to crow about, and he's near the end of his career. Plus he played at UT 16 years ago. Soon recruits won't even have been born yet when he last played as a Vol.
