Lets say we hire a Gundy Mora or Davis would Hart give them the freedom to spend say 4 Million on assistants? Say 1 million plus for coordinators ? And if he did how would you feel about the hire of one of those guys being at the helm then? with an all-star staff under him. Just for discussion. not really wanting this kind of head coach, but if a allstar staff were put together under one of these coaches I would not feel as bad about it. What say you?

I think any of those 3 would do well at TN. The only thing I have a little worry about with any new HC is that they will bring with them a staff of their choosing. This could be a great staff (much like what Gruden was allegedly putting together) or it could be a staff from loyalty (as Cut was allegedly hard over on in our last search).

I really think that the quality of the staff is almost as important as the HC hire.

Also, would any of those keep Graham on? Or any of the HC (not named Gruden) candidates?

Top quality oc and dc are just as important as the HC in most cases. I hope we are aggressive in filling those also!

The Strength and Conditioning Coach is a major player. He is with the players more than the coaches in the off season.

IMO, that is how you get a guy like Patterson or Gundy to consider a move. Sure, either coach would get a million dollar raise to come, but it is the huge raise he could get his staff that would make it worth consideration. If Gundy were to take the job here, I could see Monken getting a 400,000.00-500,000.00 raise.

I would like to see a OC and DC with NFL experience, preferable at that position. Not only does that help with teaching the fundamentals, but also recruiting. Since I think the going rate in the NFL is around $800,000, I think that could happen. Hopefully they either look at very good current college coordinators or look up into the NFL instead of down (as we did with Clawson and Sal and Dooley). We took a gamble on all three and we are 0 for 3. Given that I would not be as concerned about who the HC turns out to be.
