Former NCAA executive Greg Shaheen offers insight into Selection Sunday - college basketball - ESPN

Interesting read on what is actually going on with setting up the tournament, seeding, etc.

Says that they instituted a rule back after 2000 where they don't go to bed on Saturday night until all of the at large bids are selected.

Sunday is more about seeding and making sure conference teams that can't play each other at certain times don't, and so forth.

Do you think this is good news or bad news for us if they actually selected last night?

Don't think it matters either way. I think Ole Miss is probably in either way, but they can always slide out the last at large team.

Why do you think this is bad news?

It isn't good or bad news, it doesn't mean anything.

I guess I was thinking that if we were on the bubble with Ole Miss and they lost today, that would be beneficial vs. them winning and potentially taking our spot. It would make today irrelevant?

This. The teams that are battling for the last couple of slots are not playing today. So it really doesn't matter if teams were decided on last night or today.

No. The committe has the teams picked, but if last night they said ole miss isn't deserving they wouldn't have them in. However, they'd have a pre determined team that if ole miss wins and gets the auto would bump that team out.

Make sense?

If we taken care of business and won the Alabama game, our situation would have been a lot better. That game was extremely disappointing. You reap what you sow.

Done deal. Ole Miss beat us twice and now won the SEC tourney. Deserved to be in regardless. If we don't make it they only have to look to scoring in the 30s and 40s to know why.

Not overly disappointed in the season anyway. They lost their best player for the wholes season and lack a true PG. About as good as could be expected.

A voice of reason, well said.

There are few games to be played on Sunday, and fewer of those that the result has an impact on who's in or out. I'd guess that OM was probably in anyhow as a result of making it to the finals, and the result of the actual game was irrelevant.
