Here we are. 15 games into the SEC slate with 15 more SEC games to go. 5-10 in conference play. Only 6 of the first 15 were at home and we went 1-5 in those.

Had we gone 4-2 in those home games we'd be sitting at 9-6 tied for 5th overall with UF. What's really sad is that's exactly where we should be.

However, it's been a weird season and some of it is hard to explain...not just for us. We go to Oxford and take two games. Ole Miss goes to Vandy and takes two games. Or this post from cockytalk...

Re: Downward spiral

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know whats going on. this team just lacks energy and leadership that it has had in the past. I think that is hurting Holbrook because he's never had to play motivator considering the guys he was working with so he's lost.

the players just play the game like they're just happy to have a scholarship. Theres no swag anymore (as much as I hate that word). Holbrook can't really do much about their performance on the field. You can't convince me they don't work on fundamentals and stuff like that at practice, for some reason it just isn't carrying over into games.

I think it all starts with the offense. The team isn't scoring runs, and it knows that, which affects the defense because now they're thinking too much, "we aren't scoring this error is going to kill us" and it lingers.

I don't know who the hitting coach is, but its time for a change there for sure. Its easier to replace assistants than it is to replace a head coach. Start there, move up the chain. Players have to take responsibility as well though.

Replace Holbrook with Serrano and change the team from SC to UT and it sounds pretty much the same.

Any other year, we'd be done with this record, we'd just be playing out the string, but looking around the league, not only is Hoover still in play but even an outside shot to make the tourney exists. In all likelyhood we'd have to go 9-6 the rest of the way to do it though.

Last year TAMU was the last SEC team in the field with a 14-16 record and they didn't win a game in the SEC tourney.

Of course, the bottom of the league is bunched up, so we may not get the same number of teams into the field.

Just some random numbers, all based on SEC games ONLY.

David Houser is hitting .343 second only to...Andrew Lee who is batting .347.

Yep both ahead of Senzel .328 and Stew's .302.

Jared Pruett has had 16 AB's, he's batting .500 in SEC games...AJ Simcox is batting .169, slightly better than...
freshman Brodie Leftridge's .167...

Through 15 SEC games...we've attempted 15 steals, getting 9...

The team ERA is up to 5.68 in SEC Only games, last place in the league...we are 12th in team BA, and last in FLD/%...thankfully UK is right there with us in 2 of the 3...

Thanks vol66. The stories are eerily similar. It seems the more we try to explain, the more we can't make sense of it. Hope our story has a better ending. :)

Speaking of USCe, Will Crowe is done for the year now.

I had similar thoughts Sunday.

I think we have a lack of leadership on the team as it all graduated last season. This is compounded because I also think we have a handful of guys that are burned out on baseball and need leadership and motivation.

I should be in Lexington this weekend for 1 or 2 games so maybe the short road trip will clear their mechanism.

Or maybe, it's time to admit, this team is just not very good?
