Everyone throws out the words talent, potential and athletes when describing UT's offense. We need some football players! Larry Seivers, Craig Faulkner they didn't look like much but they could catch the ball. We need to stop worrying about 40 times and size and recruit some players(heart)and not potential!

I don't know about that. It seems like Vandy has plenty of heart.....

I would argue that the level of skill is much higher across the board in 2005 than it was 30 years ago when Mr. Seivers was playing and even 15 years ago when Mr. Faulkner was playing. It is much more difficult to make up the gap of skill with emotion now then it was then Although I do believe heart still does play a role...you still need the skills to play at a high level.

True but hes a player vs. the "talent " and ''potential" of Ainge. Don't get me wrong they all have talent and skill, but I want the ones that get the most out of it and not just rely on it.

The worst is that it can be very difficult to determine a player's character when recruiting them! It is just another part of scouting a player, and I don't doubt that at some point in the recruiting process, character is factored in as best they can.

Fulmer plays talent over football ability a lot I think. From what I read, Sanders wanted to start Clausen, but Fulmer overruled him, wanting to go with the more talented Ainge with the better arm. Same thing is slowly happening at Safety, where D. Morley is getting more playing time, having more speed and natural ability. Fulmer recruits, the top players at each position in the country, and he rarely, in my opinion, doesnt go with that talent after they get here. Its the smart play, but occasionally you get burned like what happened this year with Clausen.
