I would do Prado for Adam Jones straight up if the Braves didn't have Chipper at 3B. But as it is, Adam Jones isn't enough of an upgrade to give up the roster flexibility. It's a lot easier to paper over 40-50 games in LF while Prado subs for Chipper than it is to find someone on the scrap heap that can give you 50 decent games at third.

I don't disagree with that and we value prado pretty similarly. Wilson Betemit? (I say that having no clue what his expected salary is.)

Betemit would indeed be a guy off the scrap heap you could get cheap to back up Chipper at 3B if you could pull a deal for a good LF. The problem is that then you've got a guy on the bench who can do nothing but pinch hit and play third, and that's a crummy use of a roster spot. I guess you could give him a crash course in LF during spring training (career games in the OF: 4) so that he could play both spots, but that's pretty awful too.

Basically I don't think the Braves should trade Prado unless they get a massive upgrade in return. They're hamstrung by the complication that the starting 3B is only going to give them 120-130 games at most.

I haven't heard anybody say a word about it, but I wonder if the next 3rd baseman might not be Dan Uggla.

No. I think Salcedo is the future 3rd baseman. Chipper will retire after 2012, and then they'll get a veteren for a year or two till Salcedo is ready.

Pretty early on in his career trajectory for you to be sold on him as the future 3rd baseman. Good chance Uggla's contract is up by the time he's everyday MLB ready any way.

He's our best hitting prospect, and had a big year in Rome till about the last month. If everything goes right, he should be ready mid-2013/2014.

.248/.315/.396

I think I could hit .248 in A-ball. There's a little difference between Rome and Atlanta besides the hour drive.

Salcedo has a high ceiling, but is FAR from a sure thing.

Look at his numbers before his August swoon. He's 19 and had a .270/.330/.450 type year. He's not a sure thing, but he's got a ton of potential. I expect a big year from him in 2012.

If he can play 2nd, I'd think that 3rd would be a cakewalk. I'm thinking more in terms of his age at the back of his contract than anything else.

I don't doubt he'd have decent range, but I don't think his arm is anywhere near good enough to play third. At least adequately.

Wow, it's been a pretty quiet offseason for the Braves. How many games does everyone think the braves will win this year?

Starting to think they could finish behind the Nationals and Marlins. This will be the most competitive NL East in a while.

If Josh Johnson isn't healthy, the Marlins won't be that good. They signed a closer, a 4.00 ERA pitcher, and a SS that can barely play 140 games and had his best season ever in a contract season which is a total outlier season.

Okay, so I had heard about the 1997 NLCS Livan Hernandez game, but never seen the strikeouts...

there's no doubt the ump made a bet on the game.
