Nah, I know. I get what you meant, was just ragging on you. We snuck up on the phillies late in the year, too.

The saving grace for the braves is the starting pitcher depth. That can cure a lot of ills. Hayward/freeman could produce even more, bourn for a whole year... and stuff you've already noted. I worry about kimbrel or venters' arm falling off, but good god this will be a competitive division.

It isn't the nationals year to need to do it, so huge progress is just gravy for us.

haha.. got ya.

Agreed the one advantage we got going for us is depth in our pitching.. couple of injuries could derail the nats and fish.. even the Phils. It already has with the Howard injury

But yeah this division is gonna be a murder's row..

I mean, a couple of injuries could derail any of the teams. The thing with the Nats is... if we are in the thick of it, what do we do with Strasburg and his inning limit?

Wouldn't totally shock me to see us go to a six man rotation if that becomes a worry. We have three guys vying for the 5 spot in the rotation.

Did you see you see the "golden boy" Harper's comments?

...talking about how he is going to be like Broadway Joe off the field and party it up?

Kid has all the intangibles but he better learn to check his ego, or his teammates and the rest of baseball is going to hate him

The pitching staffs are crazy good in the NL East. I like Strasburg, even though he is a Nat.. I just kind of see him as going down the Kerry Wood path. I hope not though

I think Strasburg will be fine. Jordan zimmermann had the same thing happen, and we saw how great he was last season shortly after the surgery. Strasburg can be the best pitcher in the game.

And Harper just needs to understand how much he is in the spotlight. Honestly, being around major leaguers could help him some. I was at spring training last year for his stint with the team, and Werth didn't let him get away with loafing even in warm ups or anything.

I agree, maybe Greg walker will work some miracles this year.. but we will have Bourn for a full season, which is big time. Won't have to worry about Gonzo flailing at every outside breaking pitch in the dirt.. which will be nice. Hopefully Pastornicky can hold his own and get on base..

Heyward is going to bounce back.. I am confident of that, same for Prado.

95 is a stretch, but I'll stick with it

I will be happy to be wrong.

I think having Bourn for a full year is worth a couple of extra wins, then and it is a BIG if.. if we stay healthy that is a couple more wins than last year. But there is a very good chance that I am wrong and we win in the 85 to 90 range.. which may be good enough for the last wild card spot.. we will see. Just ready for the season to get here

For those in the East Tennessee area, Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman, Cory Gearrin, and Greg Walker are going to be in Knoxville at the Sports Academy today at 4.

I understand the point trying to be made, but the Nationals being better won't help us beat them more. The Marlins are also better. Plus our interleague schedule is brutal this year. Hanson, Hudson, and Jurrjens are all coming off injuries. Freeman has to be expected for slight regression at least. Heyward and Prado are ? marks. Chipper is 40. Our SS has played a couple weeks above A-ball and is average at best defensively. It would be a significant stretch to call our infield defense average. Our rotation consists of ground ball pitchers. Why someone conceded Fredi having more of a clue what he's doing this season is beyond me. Hopefully he lays off K and V with 4 run leads this year.

This is definitely a more than capable 85-90 win team. I think Heyward bounces back. But given the amount of question marks, 95 is too high. That's best case scenario. Things are just as likely to blow up and us win 70.

Tbrown ... is your interleague the AL East? I know I looked at the nationals last night and it was... @sox,@jays,vsyankees,vsrays,vsorioles for interleague

Yeah.. @Rays @RSox Yanks. Idk who all but it's rough.

Last year we played 3 in Seattle and got Felix, Pineda, bedard. Murphys law

Haha no kidding. I'm gonna try to get up to dc for their matchups with the Yankees. though it may end in disappointment for me

I usually go to at least 2 or so braves games a year

I usually make two home series a year and try to see an away series once a year. Going to Boston in June for the games at Fenway. Never been, can't wait. I'm looking forward to seeing the Nats park but gonna hold off til Harper and Rendon make it.

I'm gonna try to catch a series where it is stras, zimmermann, Gio.

Fenway is one of the best experiences in sports, hands down. I was there for a david Ortiz walkoff a few years back and thought the earth had exploded.

Quick probable 25 man roster for Braves fan that didn't get involved in the offseason:

CF Bourn
RF Heyward
3B Jones
C McCann
2B Uggla
1B Freeman
LF Prado
SS Pastornicky

Starting Rotation
SP Jurrjens
SP Beachy
SP Hanson
SP Minor
SP Teheran

Bench
OF Diaz
IF Wilson
C Ross
UTL Hinske
OF Constanza

Relievers
Kimbrel
Venters
O'Flaherty
Medlen
Martinez
Flande

Couple Notes
Hudson doesn't look like he'll make it for opening day. His back isn't looking good and will miss the first month it seems.

We are still looking for a lefty reliever as a loogy I believe. However, Medlen does well against lefties, and the Braves could go with Medlen as basically a LOOGY type guy and use another righty such as Jairo Ascencio

The bench is set unless the Braves want another middle infielder. But with Prado ability to play third, I don't imagine they'll do that.

zj,
Looks about right except I am not sure if they were able to reconnect both Venters', O'Flaherty's, and Kimbrel's pitching arms. They did sign Moylan to a minor league deal worth about $1M. If he's healthy, I imagine he will make it back up.

Baseball makes me happy. Not sure why. Just does. Pitchers and Catchers report are four of the most beautiful words in the English language in the middle of a seemingly endless winter.

So, so true.

I'm not kidding. Twenty minutes after the Super Bowl ends, I'm in baseball mode till December.

I hope Matt Diaz does well this year. It would really help us if/when Chipper misses time and Prado takes over at third. Plus I've always appreciated how hard he plays.

Matty is gonna bounce back.. I fully believe that. He is gonna rake lefty's amd that will be his primary role. Him and Hinske should put up around 12-15 dings off the pine

Who do you think gets bumped when Huddy gets back? Most obvious answer will be Teheran due to his youth but I think he gonna come in and be lights out after a cup or two of coffee last year and an entire offseason to prepare. However, Mike is gonna break out this year.. I hung out and talked to him a couple of times this offseason when he was back home, and he has put on some muscle in his lower body and is mentally geared up. Unbiased think he is going to be much improved this year. Ahyhow, Teheran is gonna have a permanent spot in the rotation and soon. Dude is an ace.
