Hey I respect anyone for going with their convictions and SF is a very progressive place, but something stinks...

Hmm idk man. Maybe they're realizing what had happened to other players with concussion issues and are finally accepting that the life they'll gain in the future is better than risking it in the present
 
Running Back and Inside Linebacker are positions that are being devalued in the NFL unless, of course, you're really good. Just so happens those are probably the positions of greatest concern for head collisions.

It's a different game compared to what it was. We'll see if kids continue playing and if technology and rule changes can keep a relatively high level of play.

The NFL is as popular as ever, but the rule changes aren't trending well

This is dead on. I think the guy looked at the numbers and decided that a few years of great but not set-your-family-up-forever money wasn't worth the risk. I would also assume that he comes from a fairly well off family to begin with; this isn't a move many guys from poor backgrounds are going to be able to make.

Good for him though. Hope we call all learn to like 7 on 7.
