Now that Heller dug a pretty good foxhole for the 2nd those pesky liberals have come up with another tactic. Make all the gun owners pony up a huge liability policy. It begins in Illinois.

"Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Effective January 1, 2010."

I am sure all the street gangsters and drug traffickers will sign up for their policy first thing in the morning.

What a joke.

That is my sincere hope. I have to wonder though. Heller seemed to confirm the "right" but the "regulation" aspect has a LOT more room for interpretation.
the bill overtly precludes legal gun ownership and will die a fiery death for it, IMO.

Again, that is precisely what I would think would be the case. Their objection being that such liability coverage would be a "reasonable" regulation and would of course be willing to see how far down they could lower the amount of coverage and still make it stick.

This smells of a "testing the boundary" sort of thing. In the wake of Heller I guess none of us should really be surprised.

I'll never be surprised, but the anti-gun crowd is simply barking up the wrong tree. Gun ownership is part & parcel to Americana and that isn't going to change without a huge tidal shift in the American POV.

HMMM? We could all get the $1,000,000. policy.

Then "accidently" shoot some of the idiots who come up with such laws. :)

All the anti-gun stuff will die. If it ever does get passed then I will just get locked up I guess. Because I'm not giving up my mine when ppl who don't deserve to have them will always have thiers.

Most of us think the anti-gun crap will stop....I used to, like I would have never thought congress would pass the largest spending bill in history without anyone really having time to even read it. Our guns rights are being assaulted in many different ways....from taxes to liability insurance crap. Common sense is out the door as of lately, so keep a sharp eye out. All they need is something to whip up fear and the media will have a field day about it and next thing you know ammo is $10,000 a box, but you can keep your gun.

is what these anti-gun idiots are forgetting, most of your violent crime is commited by unregistered weapons, so no matter what laws are passed as far as insurance or any other BS like that isnt going to change the fact except maybe deter pple that are honest from owning guns, and therefore making it to where they cannot defend themselves which inherently is a violation of the second ammendment

Where are the liberals in this thread? Funny how they disappear when the Democratic assaults on liberty and freedom are being discussed.
