"They couldn't really stop the run, so we just kept our foot on their throat and just ran it down their throat," Marshall said.
UT football was crippled during the Dooley occupation both in talent and mindset.
The loss to Auburn was expected do the disparity in talent level, but the way we lost is what as a vol fan burns to the core.
Sadly Marshall was correct in his analysis. Defense wins championships and we have little depth in this area. Coach Jones is doing what it takes to bring in the necessary talent.
Either way this quote is a slap in the face to the defense and hopefully will motivate them appropriately for vandy.
Actually they were dominating our front 7 from the get go.
Only reason we looked decent was because they came out passing before they realized the obvious.
Weak in the trenches, doesn't win in the SEC.
Strange how life works. Fulmer was declining when we put him out to pasture and the majority of thought was "it can't get any worse". Then we hired Kiffin. After he bolted for his dream job just weeks before signing day, again, it was "it can't get any worse".
Then we hired Dooley. Fast forward a couple of years and "it can't get any worse". Law of averages say we have to be right eventually. Hopefully this year is more on what Dooley left behind and less about CBJ's ability to coach. I'm tired of sinking to levels of suckiness I didn't even know existed. If we're back to "it can't get any worse" in another 2-3 years, it will be a sad, sad day. I predict the Henley Street Bridge will have quite a long line.
I can't believe we convinced him to play Defensive Back.
GA Tech was all over him and almost signed him to run their offense until UGA turned up the heat on him.
What could have been.
