Auburn RB insults UT Defense

...11 slow dudes with no arms running around yesterday! Hate the product on display but I'm optimistic of our future. No way to go but up! Go Vols!!

LMAO! That's a funny mental picture.

Our missed assignments make our D look slower than it really is.

Speaking the truth is sometimes unpleasant. If the players are insulted by it, get better.

I've been following the Vols since the mid sixties and it's been rare to see as pathetic a product as that on the field. I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving early.

At least Auburn had the grace to mix the plays up a bit. The bear would simply run the same play again, again, and again.

Remember what the Braves GM said in "Trouble with the Curve"....."Jesus Christ, he knows it's coming and he still can't hit it!"

The defense should be embarrassed. Marshall straight called them out to the nation.

"They couldn't really stop the run, so we just kept our foot on their throat and just ran it down their throat," Marshall said.

UT football was crippled during the Dooley occupation both in talent and mindset.
The loss to Auburn was expected do the disparity in talent level, but the way we lost is what as a vol fan burns to the core.
Sadly Marshall was correct in his analysis. Defense wins championships and we have little depth in this area. Coach Jones is doing what it takes to bring in the necessary talent.
Either way this quote is a slap in the face to the defense and hopefully will motivate them appropriately for vandy.

I would have thought that the two previous tail whippings would have been a slap in the face.

Actually they were dominating our front 7 from the get go.
Only reason we looked decent was because they came out passing before they realized the obvious.
Weak in the trenches, doesn't win in the SEC.

True about the passing, but the first few times they ran we actually contained them pretty well.

The long run by Marshall ... I think it was 62 yards on their two play, 75 yard drive seemed to break our will. Unfortunately.

Bobby Knight used to preach "mental toughness", which our D seemed to lack yesterday, because after that one play they just wilted.

Or as Neyland said, "if the breaks go against you pour on more steam".

The team needs to learn better how to handle adversity. I have faith that it will come. Saban had to struggle with Shula's old players his first year also.

Strange how life works. Fulmer was declining when we put him out to pasture and the majority of thought was "it can't get any worse". Then we hired Kiffin. After he bolted for his dream job just weeks before signing day, again, it was "it can't get any worse".
Then we hired Dooley. Fast forward a couple of years and "it can't get any worse". Law of averages say we have to be right eventually. Hopefully this year is more on what Dooley left behind and less about CBJ's ability to coach. I'm tired of sinking to levels of suckiness I didn't even know existed. If we're back to "it can't get any worse" in another 2-3 years, it will be a sad, sad day. I predict the Henley Street Bridge will have quite a long line.

Whatever else about Butch proves to be true, he will be better than Dooley. Recruiting is already years ahead of where Dooley was. If nothing else, that will give us more future wins.

I can't believe we convinced him to play Defensive Back.

GA Tech was all over him and almost signed him to run their offense until UGA turned up the heat on him.

What could have been.

GT must have lower academic standards for athletes. Nick Marshall is a good football player, but watching him interviewed did not give me the vibe that he was an academic All-American.

The kid is right it's not a insult. It's funny how some fans think that these coaches are supposed to change everything in one season. Their supposed to come in and coach players that they didn't recruit, a program full of players that don't know how to win who have had coaching change after coaching change. We should be lucky that these kids stuck with the program because when they were recruited to come here I'm sure this isn't what they had in mind. Just imagine being a 5th yr senior on this team and seeing Fulmer get fired, having to buy into Kiffin and watching him leave in the middle of the night, then have to buy into Dooley and watch all these assistants leave, and now have to buy into Jones.

LOL should we be pissed they were still running the ball in the 4th quarter?

Now that's funny!

The kids comment kinda reminds me of Steve Kiner's "Those crimson uniforms used to mean something" ... except it was nicer and from the wrong team.

.

What exactly was the Dooley mindset? I want proof. Not what you want to believe is the truth.
