We all know its the most beautiful, most groomed course there is yet every year they seem to make some sort of change. The greens seem to be the biggest defense the course has aside from rarely hitting a shot from a level lie. After watching the masters I think I might make a change to the 11th hole. How many times did guys hits shots 20-30yds right of the green from the fairway? I think they should put a huge, deep bunker over there to force the players to take a shot at the green instead of bailing out to the right every time.

The hole is hard enough as is

Agreed.

It's a 505 yard par 4. It has become very tough to hit the fairway. There has to be a bailout area. Putting a bunker there would take away the drama.

The hole has plenty of drama, but not many people put it in the water anymore. Leaders especially. Used to, somebody was losing the tournament dumping it in there on Sunday. Nobody lost the tournament with a swim on 11 12 13 or 15 this year

Well maybe make the green a little deeper & add a bunker. Maybe clear just a few trees out on the right to make the fairway just a lil bit wider. Other than it's length it's become a rather boring hole.

That's because the hole has been lengthened. Now, guys are so far back they aim right. If they pull it a little bit, they are still dry. Before, lots of 145-165 yard shots and guys were more likely to go at the pin. If they pulled it, it was wet. Augusta got too enamored with lengthening some holes. That little jewel on the front still gives them fits

But that up and down is a monster because that green slopes hard toward the water. That bailout is anything but a bailout. Great, great hole.

They kept it playable from the rough, or the place was a monster this year. Mickelson hit one from the second cut on 18 and it stopped it about 3 feet. Watching it come in, I thought it would bounce over the ridge.

The low rough cut was one of the first things I noticed when I was there Tuesday. With greens as tricked up as those are, can you imagine how the course would play if there was a second cut of rough or even a normal cut? Nobody would go low; especially with the groove change.

the groove change is really going to make a difference at the us open.

I don't think so. The rough is so penal that grooves are immaterial, unless they go with last years kinder, gentler approach. Place it will be ugly is TPC Sawgrass.

I thought the open still had an intermediate cut? I might have to make the trip up to the tpc this year...could be a good one.

I think Augusta National has done a fantastic job, despite what Arnie or Watson or Jack may say, in making the course playable for various types of players - bomb and gouge guys like Phil or shorter hitters like Weir or Zach Johnson. Plus, the final-round 65 is still there for the taking. Yeah, it's long, but if it still played 6,900 yards, it would turn into the Bob Hope and the winning score would be -22 or something. Double digits under par is acceptable to win the Masters. I wanna see some birdies there. Conversely, I wanna see people grinding out pars at the U.S. Open and have the winning score be somewhere between +3 and -5.
