Jury: Aunt who sued over hug gets no money

SIAP, but how in the world did this go to trial? I don't think the Onion could have written a funnier version yet this appears to be real.

My favorite quote:

But, Connell continued, her life was turned upside down as a result of the injury.

“I live in Manhattan in a third-floor walk-up so it has been very difficult,” she said. “And we all know how crowded it is in Manhattan.”

And then there is the damage the injury has done to Connell’s social life.

“I was at a party recently, and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” she said.

I just saw on the news where she loses. Judge isn't going to let her sue him.

She is a human resources manager? I wouldn't want to work for that company. Seems she really lacks judgement and reasoning skills.

It's a sad story. The boy was in court and couldn't understand how someone he loved was doing this to him. You have to be sick to do something like this.

The story is overly sensationalized. She was trying to make a claim on the boy's parents' homeowners insurance policy which would not accept the injury claim. Apparently in CT one must make an individual the defendant in the case, which is why the boy and his father were listed as the defendants. They resided in the house and were listed in the policy.

She stated in a subsequent interview that she has a good relationship with the family and it was never about making a claim against her family members.

I don't know about the merits of the claim itself, but the story leaves out some important details about the lawsuit.

That makes sense.

It was a money grab plain and simple and despite her supposedly not going after the family directly it affects their life regardless by going after the insurance money. I wouldn't care what her reasoning was she wouldn't be a part of my family or even a friend after that.

Exactly. All future contact would be cut off after that.

Seen this the other day and thought it had to be a joke. Unreal but in this day sadly not surprising.
