First thread so don't kill me....

A question I have is why aren't we recruiting probably two of the biggest west coast quarterbacks in Austin Hinder (Steamboat Springs, CO) and Pete Thomas (Valhalla, CA)? Both are very highly recruited (especially Hinder) and very good prospects... Heres a little on both....

Austin Hinder

Hinder was already a well known name, putting his name on the national recruiting map in 2008. He did it again with another strong showing at the Army Combine. There is no doubt that Hinder will be one of the top pro-style quarterback prospects in the entire nation in the Class of 2010. As he continues to physically mature, his arm strength will get even better. Combined with his height, excellent accuracy and a good decision making, he's lined up to be one of the best of the best next year.

Pete Thomas

Pro-style quarterback

Ht: 6-foot-5 (Event)
Wt: 201 lbs
Forty: 5 secs
Class: 2010 (High School)

Thomas is your prototypical pocket passer with excellent size to scan the field and has shown the ability to make all the necessary throws. He has ideal size for his skill level and what will be asked of him in the passing game. He is at his best when given time in the pocket to set up, make his reads and step into his throws. Is difficult to defend when gets into a rhythm. Shows good overall arm strength and zip on short and intermediate passes and has shown the ability to make all the college level throws. At times, displays excellent timing and can release the ball before his receivers make their cuts. Shows nice anticipation for throws outside the numbers. Has shown he can go through progressions when gets time and does an adequate job of checking down when his primary receiver isn't open.

I think we've actually offered Hinder, but I'm not positive on that.

Basically, we're putting most of our eggs in the Heaps and Sims basket. We're hoping that we get one or the other, and then most likely some lesser touted guy.

Well since this is your first topic I guess this would be a good time for my first post on this board.

I agree with bburger that we either have offered or fixing to offer Hinder. Here is an article dated 2/20/09 saying that where fixing to offer him and that we have been in contact with him.

And as for Pete Thomas from what I've been hearing is that he really wants to stay out west and sign with a PAC-10 school, so TN might not put much time into him since '10 has a semi deep QB class.

Heaps figured to be one of the first to announce, so the window on him was short. Going into their respective senior campaigns, Heaps clearly appears to be the most fluid and polished quarterback available. It makes sense why so many schools would pursue him.

I think Sims was offered so early partially because of his ties to Askew and other guys out of Oscar Smith in the 2010 class. That's not to take anything away from him. I just think that could've been a factor in his early offer.

Nick Montana took his unofficial at the urging of Lane and I think he's in Lane's top-5 for pro-style quarterbacks.

We've also offered Blake Bell, but I think Bell will stay in the Big-12.

From what I've read, I don't expect us to become a factor with Pete Thomas.

good find. I wasn't sure why Hinder hadn't been discussed much.

This HInder kid is rated the #2 Pro Style QB, does he not have a Kiffin offer?

Good. That'll put them out of the running for Scroggins/Heap.

I say he will commit because that is what a former player told me, but this article confirms that he is very high on cal:

"With Cal specifically, there are a lot of things that stand out about the program to me. It really starts with Coach (Jeff) Tedford. You just have to understand that he's one of my favorite individuals in the game. I love that guy.

"I'll never forget when he offered me a scholarship, and I was there, and I'm telling, I learned more in one hour of being around him then I have in 50 camps since. He's a great, great coach. And you can look at his resume and see the six or so first-round NFL Draft Picks, plus the 10-win seasons every year. He has all that. But he's also a great person just to talk with."

The QB picture will start to take shape very soon. Within a month I think this will all be worked out.

Thanks for the info, Droski. I hope we hear soon.

Steamboat Springs (Colo.) High's Austin Hinder hasn't been talking much about recruiting, but numerous sources say California will be hard to beat for his services. UCLA could make a run and Notre Dame also is in the mix, but right now Cal seems to have a solid edge.

El Cajon (Calif.) Valhalla's Pete Thomas seems to favor Arizona State in a big way, but a couple of other offers could change that, mainly from USC or UCLA.

From Mike Farrell...
