played a hell of a game today at MLB in the Shriner Bowl. What's the story on him, could he be a more athletic version of Karl?

I was surprised we offered a scholarship so soon. Dad owns a car dealership in Hickory. Everyone says he is a beast on the field. We must have seen something in the guy to offer so early. Would not be shocked if we moved him to DE

Johnson is much bigger than Karl is right now and Karl was a Safety/LB coming out of high school while this guy looks like he could be making the move to DE.

In his newest Rivals video they say is 245 and he looks every bit of it. They also talk about him playing MLB but they moved him to FB in their newest rankings.

I hope he's quicker than Karl. Ryan has the brains and the heart, but he sure looked slow to me.

My understanding is that he's been a UT fan all his life.

He will probably be an DE but IMO that will be a waste. Supposedly has very good speed for that size and very intelligent.

i really wish he'd be a MLB. We need a replacement for Karl anyways. He seems like a much better Karl. Smart, big but this one is fast.

That's great that he is all VOL. We need some more kids who know what the big orange is all about. These West Coast kids just don't know how serious we are.

in the sec youve got to have d-lineman that are as fast as linebackers, linebackers that are as fast as DB's and db's are that are really really fast

Not really. That just seems to be the prevailing philosophy. They don't line up that way in the NFL. Their MLB's are bigger and slower than UT plays.

I'd actually like to see UT play bigger up the middle even if they're a little slower.

Yeah, that's called Big 10 defense. It works in the NFL because everyone is big, strong, and fast in the NFL.

His latest 40 time was a 4.65

That's about as fast as Mayo (4.6 but that was when Mayo was 215). If the kid has all the skills to be a good to great MLB (smarts, speed, strength) then just keep him at MLB. I don't know if he's only fast in a straight line, but if he's agile enough... keep em at MLB, IMO.

Johnson has run a 4.65 forty and is somewhere north of 235 lbs. He is a prototypical Big Ten MLB but they seem to always become DEs at Tennessee. I cannot see both Donald and Johnson becoming DEs. We are very deep there right now. He played MLB at the Shrine game. I saw him interviewed. He was well spoken and bleeds orange. Born and raised Vol fan. If we cannot get a DT we need him at MLB he could plug those running lanes.

I thought he looked a little slow for the middle in college. I think he'll eventually become an end at Tennessee....either way, he seems to be a tough, physical kid...I look forward to seeing him in Orange.
