Austin Long is a Dawg

why you say that?

It should be renamed Briarcrest "Christian" "School". Briarcrest is the only part of the name with any truth.

It is the most hypocritical place I have ever seen, and I had straight A's and rarely opened a book. The people there are all rich spoiled brats. There were a few good people, but the bad far far outweighed the good.

I went to White Station for high school. Best decision of my life. I absolutely loved White Station.

And I know we have a walk on QB from Briarcrest named Bram Cannon that will never play. Also Ole Miss got a big guy that plays either O-Line or D-Line they call "Big Mike"...he of course went to Ole Miss because Sean Touhey took him under his wing and guided him there.

haha yea that is funny. this commitment to georgia came as a huge surprise. I think everyone felt that it was gonna be Florida or Bama. He has been a big florida fan his whole life so that explains why he is wearing the hat.

Memphis might as well be California. It's disappointing to see all the "in-state" talent from that area go elsewhere.

I think that is slowly starting to change. Probably not with the private school kids from Memphis, but I think that more and more public school kids will slowly start coming our way. I have my theories on why if further explanation is necessary. Having been to both private and public schools in Memphis recently I feel like I have a pretty good idea about it.

Do tell... Why do you think more public school kids will start coming our way? And why do you think private school kids will not?

I'm not sure how to say this politically correct.

The Hope Scholarship is helping draw more public school kids to UT in general. The more common it is for public school kids in general the more common it will be for athletes. The city of Memphis as a whole is very negative towards UT, but the more people from Memphis that come to UT, the more that will slowly convert. I'm not saying it'll happen over night, but I think it will happen.

And the private school kids have always been able to go where they want. And because Memphis in general doesn't like UT (because of the little brother complex) it's not a popular decision to make. Ole Miss is the "cool" school to go to for most private schools in Memphis (especially Briarcrest, EVERYONE at Briarcrest is an Ole Miss "fan").

That help? It's hard to explain to people who haven't ever seen it first hand.

John Henderson attended Briarcrest, didn't he?

I enjoyed my time at Briarcrest when I was there.

I remember watching John Henderson play basketball at the state tournament. Amazing. He was a beast. I had never seen a guy that big move like he did. And even though there were other 'big' guys on the court with him he still made everyone else look like a dwarf.

i hate to burst ur bubble but there isnt hardly anyone from briarcrest going to ole miss. Mississippi State and Bama are the schools that everyone is going to. And surprisingly tennessee has quite a few coming up there. But i really enjoy Briarcrest

Yeah, surprisingly the whole Ole Miss obsession at Briarcrest is dying down. In terms of students going to college, most seem to be choosing Mississippi State, Memphis, and Alabama. Of course a lot of students still go the Grove for games, but all the students that were here during the Hugh Freeze and Michael Oher days are graduating.
I was surprised he committed because he toldeveryone he had just narrowed it down to three schools. And I'm not trying to knock his ability, but I believe there are plenty of lineman we are capable of getting that can be a bigger help for Tennessee.

Just to clarify, the mom never visited. UT did a good job for the most part in this process. Only thing I can say is, there was a little drop off once the "Duke Boys" left before they got Drayton reassigned but Drayton worked hard when he got here. Austin gave TN a good look and just didnt think he fit in well. Nothing personal and his dad (ME) stayed completely out of it! My approach was, if Archie Manning could wear Orange and cheer for his son, I guess I could have too! Tennessee has a great program and something you guys should be proud of. Either way, Austin fell in love with Ga and decided that was best for him. Good luck to you guys!

Tim Long

That is from his dad, should answer any questions about his recruitment.
