I was up there right before 9/11 and I really liked it. But you're right, it's definitely a different kind of place - and they are in their own world up there.

I found Hawaii to be the most "different" place in the country (mostly in a good way, of course!).

Good point Doc. I was in Hawaii last year. Only problem with that place is that it completely screws up any vacation that you take after going there. There's just not much you can do to top that place.

One thing that I thought was very different was the price of gasoline. I thought $2.00+ was outrageous. Little did I know . . . . :bad:

What I meant was, it was like $2.30 in Hawaii and I thought that was just crazy. But a year later and it's approaching that here too.

I have some friends who went on a medical mission trip. They pulled teeth, set bones, gave vaccines and a host of other services to folks in poor countries who needed them badly. All for free.
