The tornados that hit here have caused 2 confirmed deaths in Newbern, and the north side of town is wrecked. There are countless injuries, and devastation. One of the two hit the Jimmy Dean plant and surrounding area, causing severe and extensive damage. The second went a little further north and caused moderate damage. It seems there were even more deaths in Gibson county, where Dyer, Rutherford and Bradford were pretty much leveled. The entire city of Caruthersville Missouri is closed. No one but emergency people allowed in or out. Both of the tornados that hit the Newbern area went just about a mile north of us. We had debris all over everything, but no real damage. I hope everyone else in the line of these storms is OK. LIO, how bout you? It looks like a storm is approaching you now. Good luck to all and stay safe!

Thank the Lord we are okay in Hardin County today. The sirens were going off as we went to bed last night, but as far as I know, all we got was mild thunderstorms. I'm glad you're okay, vixenvol. Prayers to the affected areas.

I stormed until about 1:30 here last night. Our power just went off though... I may drive around today and check out the damage.

I live in Newbern and it was bad last night. it all happened so fast and no one had timr to react. it wiped out many many houses. a freind of mine that used to work for me left his year old son with his mother for 20 min. and when he returned their house was gone and he found his mother, son and step dad dead across the road in a field. it's all very tragic and everyone thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. lots of lives where destoyed all in a matter of seconds. our funeral home in town already has 12 bodies.

Glad everyone is OK. They have updated the total of confirmed deaths here in Dyer county to 12. The small community of Millsfield was almost wiped out. The actual storms moved out of here between 11 and 11:30. The last I heard there were 8 deaths in Gibson county and 4 in Caruthersville, Mo. With those numbers it is obvious that it was a massive storm that stayed on the ground and wreaked havoc in a three county swath, before easing up at all.

Vix, I'm glad to hear that you are safe. I hated to hear about the loss of life. I saw some pictures on the news from your area and it looked really bad. :(
