I realize that having so many off the field problems last year warranted some media attention, but I'm tired of hearing it. I was just reading Athlon's 2006 preview mag, and in the SEC section, they were talking about Brent Schaffer(spelling?) and how he decided to leave school when it was apparent that EA had gotten the starting nod. I was under the impression that he had gotten into trouble and was kicked off the team.
I heard similar comments a few years ago while watching Oregon State play and the announcer said that Onterrio Smith decided to transfer from UT.
Please, for my sake, list any Div. I coach that has thrown more talent off the team than PF. Don't say the others don't have problems, look how many chances Marcus Vick got before he got the boot.

I think O Smith was with the Ducks.

You think correct. Onterrio "where's my stereo" Smith played for the Ducks. He also got all kinds of preseason hype for the Heisman. There was a huge billboard of him in Times Square his last year.

What is it with Oregon players and getting billboards in New York City? Is, or was I should say, that a Nike thing?

Yeah, I think it was Nike. What other player got a billboard there? It seems kind of odd, because I doubt Oregon has much of an out-of-state fan base.

Bobby Bowden jettisoned Randy Moss and Laverneus Coles. Those guys are head and shoulders better than anyone Fulmer ever dismissed.

On the topic of bad rap for recruiting top players who get in trouble.

Fulmer can't babysit them 24/7. There has to be an element of personal responsibility.

Everyone accuses them of recruiting bad apples to begin or turning a blind eye until the problem becomes in the media. Fulmer seems pretty quick to kick troublesome players off.

Sorry about that, I stand corrected. Must be "old timers" disease.
I also think when the NCAA cut back the time coaches are allowed to spend with recruits makes it harder to really get to know the recruits.

The fact that Marcus Vick wasn't kicked off Tech's team sooner really hurt Beamer's reputation and the team's for that matter. I say kick them off and so long. It is an honor to wear any teams colors and you better respect it or be gone.
