They’re up 2 scores over the visiting team with 7 minutes left. Doesn’t look at this point like they’re laying an OOC dud here tonight, at least as things are currently going.

They had one against Georgia State.

I remember one year when they hadn't made a bowl game in a long time (may have been pre-James Franklin). They started 5-0 and then lost to MTSU at home (MTSU wasn't that good that year as well). They ended season 5-6.

I live in Nashville so I somewhat root for Vandy when they don't play Tennessee but some of their OOC dud games have really cost their program over the years. They would often play teams like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee (when we were good in the Fulmer days) and nearly win but then lose to Southwest Tech State. I would be like "if you played Southwest Tech like these guys, you would be in a freakin bowl game..."

I get pissed at SEC teams for losing embarrassing OOC games anyways. Pissed at Auburn for losing to Cal and LSU for losing to, now, 3-4 USC. Goof balls.

You’re thinking of 2005 (when Bobby Johnson was the coach and Jay Cutler was the QB).

They started 4-0 (beating Wake Forest, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Richmond) before losing 17-15 to MTSU and then proceeded to lose out to the next 5 SEC teams until they played and beat Tennessee 28-24 at the end of the year to finish 5-6.

Good call out. Yeah, Vandy hadn't been to a bowl game since the 1980s at that point and I felt like that lost killed their chance and was inexcusable. I forgot they beat Tennessee and still made it.
