Clay Travis would do well in also writing an article/post about the fact that Bear Bryant didn't even wear houndstooth; he wore plaid. Yet an entire fanbase has made houndstooth into some sort of cultural/social standard. As far as I can tell, there's only one photo of Bryant in a hat that resembles houndstooth. All the others are plaid. Could be wrong about that though; I'm certainly no expert, so I'm willing to admit my fault if proven otherwise.

On a similar note, besides slavery, Bear Bryant was the worst thing to ever happen to the state of Alabama. I dare you to prove me wrong.

How an entire fanbase confused plaid with houndstooth would be wonderful material for Travis. Unfortunately, we mostly tend to just take their word for it. I mean, they're Alabama fans. They worship the guy; they should know. Right? Wrong.

Edit: I have gone back to study the questionable hat further. It's still plaid. It's a unique plaid, and one that could be confused as houndstooth by a non-discerning eye, but it is plaid nonetheless. Dude never even wore houndstooth, as far as I can tell.

LOL I've never really given it much thought but after you pointed it out I flipped through 40 or so images on google. You are right. Definitely PLAID! Toooooo funny!

I didn't give it any thought either until a couple or so months ago. An intelligent man on the radio pointed it out. He was right. I think we all just took it for granted, because we figured a fanbase would know what its most legendary (thus far) coach actually wore atop his head.
