Bama hires Grant

I think the Alabama hire is the key factor in the Kentucky hire. Obviously Grant would have liked to have the job at Florida more than the Alabama job. With Billy D coming out and saying he didn't want the Kentucky job, I'm sure Grant contacted him to make sure he wasn't just saying that. Because if Billy D. truly wanted to go to Kentucky, Grant would have not accepted the Bama job and wait for Florida to come knocking, which you know they would have. Because of this, we know Billy won't go to Kentucky and I think it looks like Coach Cal might be your new coach at Kentucky

So Coach Cal is going to leave what he has at Memphis to be UK's second or third choice (Izzo)? Not happening.

Billy isn't going to Kentucky and I think that's apparent by Bama hiring Grant. Kentucky's 2nd choice could be Cal or Izzo. If you're Cal, why don't you take it? Top 5 coaching spot in the nation, tons of history, great pay check, great recruiting resources and just simply one of the best jobs in America. If he could recruit the players he did at Memphis, just think of the guys he could bring to Kentucky. They need a guy who can handle all the pressure and I think Coach Cal is a perfect fit for them.

One thing is for sure, Kentucky needs to hit a homerun wit this hire. Can't just be a double or base hit. They've gotta go big

I don't like him or the Tigers, but it can be argued that he has everything bolded at Memphis.

don't get me wrong, I don't them him or the Tigers either, but Kentucky is a much better coaching job than Memphis and I don't think it's even close

I'm very proud for Anthony Grant as he is a University of Dayton graduate, and former player. He is going to be a very good coach... too bad it's at Alabama :)

the fact that he just led Memphis to a title game last year and took this incredibly young and inexperienced team to the Sweet Sixteen says it's very close.

You know things are bad for UK when first they want the coach at UF..then get turned down twice by him..ouch!

This should definetly improve recruiting for Alabama.

He has recruiting pipelines all over the country and can convince kids as far north as Maryland to come down to Alabama.

As far north as Maryland? Hell, that's virtually Canada.

Getting a kid from Md to Richmond is a much easier sell than Md to Al.

The only pipelines he had were FL and bordering states. Every coach has that ability. However, he knows his Xs and Os incredibly well and will have whoever he recruits playing solid basketball very quickly.

From what I've understood living in Maryland for the past few years is that getting a kid from MD to stay in Maryland is a harder sell than getting a kid from MD to Alabama.

I'm not saying Alabama is #1 on a kid's list from Baltimore but Grant can easily outrecruit Gary Williams, simply because he has had more recent success.

false. completely and utterly false.

Grant's resume includes a two trips to the NCAA tourney (with a win over Duke) and an NIT. Yeah, he's won the CAA a few times, but that doesn't mean anything when you compare it to a coach that consistently competes in the ACC, Big East, SEC, Big Ten, Big XII or Pac 10.

It means a lot more if you can sway a recruit and parents into thinking your a proven winner wherever you go.

Do you honestly think a recruit will believe Andy Kennedy is a winner and has a winning program just because hes the HC at Ole Miss?

Recruits look at the W-L and how many players you can get to the NBA first before anything else.

His first 2 recruiting classes in 10' and 11' will be top classes because they will buy into that idea that he is a proven winner and can get them into the NBA.

If he can get into recruiting immediately he can sway a kid like Eric Bledsoe back into Alabama's plans.

comparing Andy Kennedy and Gary Williams is laughable, thus making everything else in your post meaningless.

They're on equal footing in terms of recruiting.

Gary cant recruit top players anymore and thats well known in these parts.

He has a great resume and still has as good of a chance of landing a top recruit in Maryland as Andy Kennedy does.

This is a homerun hire for Bama....again. Grant will lockdown that state, and will take some from ATL, Memphis, VA, Florida, and the Carolinas. Only signing 4 or 5 a year, the turnaround will be rapid, just watch. The SEC will be at the top agan very soon with some of the changes occurring.
