Elephant

Crimson Tide, AKA: Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) - A harmful algal bloom, or excessive algae growth, is an algal bloom that causes negative impacts to other organisms by production of natural algae-produced toxins. Algae, itself is a diverse group of eukaryotic, photosynthetic organisms that are not related to each other. Under no circumstances is this mix of plant-like and bacterial mess a large single organism such as an elephant. That's just plain Alabama pseudo-science.

We modeled our colors from flowers on The Hill. Bama chose their colors and nickname after algae. Very fitting.

We chose a hunting dog from a local farm. They chose an endangered species from Africa. Like the SEC refs to the Crimson Tide, elephants need protection from trophy hunters.. Also appropriate.

I assumed it was after their time of the month, since they always act like they’re PMS’ing

They haven't figured out that Dixieland Delight is a song about Tennessee. If you are going to make up non existing Championships, you might as well make up songs and mascots too.

I might be mistaken but I have always understood there name came from a quote in a description of a decisive victory by the confederate army during the war between the states. Don’t tell anyone they may be forced to change their name.

“No good Fulmer turned us in to the NCAA”

Fact: Alabama was paying high school coaches to steer their players to Alabama.
Alabama booster Logan Young was a lawyer who was notorious for payola to h.s coaches, players, etc. R.I.P.

Logan Young’s official explanation of death is one of the craziest “Final Destination” type things I’ve ever read. If memory serves me correctly, he slipped and hit his head on a countertop while making a salad, stumbled up some stairs while bleeding badly and died in bed… or something like that.
