Bama RB Dee Hart injures knee

So is depth now an issue at RB? Where was this injured kid on the depth chart?

He was an incoming freshman. Highly touted recruit for them. He was expected to compete for some snaps.

Could just be a sprain. If it's an ACL he's likely done for the season. It's too bad. He would have gotten some snaps, but would have had more impact in the return game. Bama's depth chart at RB is just fine.

Not really.

Richardson and Lacey are still going to get the majority of carries.

What hurts is if one of those two go down.

Fowler would actually be 3rd on the depth chart even if Hart were healthy. This means Blake Simms will probably have to work more at RB (he's been splitting reps between RB and QB during the spring). Perhaps Brent Calloway will get some time at RB, but I think his skillset is better suited for defense.

I thought Calloway was a LB all the way?

Torn ACL. Confirmed by TideSports.com. Quote below.

TideSports.com - Dee Hart injured

Hart will undergo surgery Thursday morning and is expected to require 7-10 months of rehabilitation, pending surgery results. If that projection does not change following surgery, even the most optimistic scenario for Hart would still cost Hart the entire 2011 season.

Hart, a heralded member of the Crimson Tide's No. 1 2011 signing class from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, enrolled early and played in Alabama's annual A-Day Spring Game, where he carried the ball five times for 10 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 11 yards and returned three punts for 4 yards.

Hart was expected to compete for playing time this season.

He played RB in high school, and the barn recruited him as an RB (or so they said). I still think he's going to be an LB at the next level, but given that he's not likely to get any meaningful time in our LB rotation, might as well let him try his hand at RB.

tough break....Hart was going to push Lacey for carries this season.

Two different styles. Fowler might have pushed Lacy, but Hart would have been included in different scenarios than Lacy. I think this will require more reps from B Simms who is the same type of runner as Hart.

Isn't Hart is supposed to be freakishly good? Seems like Bama basically took him over Crowell.

Everyone around the program is really high on Hart. I'm not sure I would say Bama took him over Crowell, but Hart looked great in during the Spring. It really sucks that he's injured.

No.....he isnt good enough to be a sec runningback.

He was the front runner for being the 3rd down back. Good speed and hands out of the back field.

This will hurt the most. He may have had the best hands of any RB on the team. Richardson is a decent receiver, but I have my doubts about Lacy and Fowler.

Agree with the former poster that a redshirt year would be best for the team right now. Would give him a year after Richardson leaves.
