Interesting he goes public with his opinion after Tennessee fans stayed in the stadium til after their team left the field. He doesn't need fans to win.

Alabama adjusted the Student Handbook back in July(Students being late or leaving early). 1st offence will result in Block Seating privledges being suspended for one game. The 2nd will result in loss of Block Seats. Alabama is going to sell those seats !!! $18 for a student ticket or a $2000 donation and High Priced Season Tickets for some Wealthy booster ? Makes business sense.

My first thought too. That and along with the other 8 million reasons.

That's what I kept thinking while reading the article. I think he is noticing how well we have done with attendance the last two games and has seen the positive impact it has made on recruits.

Also, &$^# Saban!

GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I sit on an alumni council and it's difficult to say good business sense on the surface. Based on $ per alumni it could give you negative equity simply based on the funds you lose from those future alumni and their friends.

Nick Saban needs a little fun in his life...

"My sense of it is, I always say the fans are a part of the team," Saban said, according to the Anniston Star. "Everybody else should have the same sort of commitment. You don't have to do the work all week, you don't have to practice, you don't have to come in at 7 in the morning and leave at 11 at night, you don't have to do any of that stuff.

"All you have to do is come to the game, drink beer, do whatever you want, party in the parking lot. I've never been at a tailgate in my life. All I'm asking is that you just come and have fun and stay for the whole game." - Nick Saban

Like him or not, Saban is an administrator genius.

Isn't freezing out the students kind of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

Lower student attendance = lower alumni donations.

Bammer: Pushing the envelope in the divorce athletics from academics since Albert Means...

...hell, since Bear endorsed Golden Flake.

I would love if this came back to bite them in the long run.

I get it. He was right saying that fans don't dedicate just about 90 hours a week to the football program. If I was a coach, I would demand people stick it out for 4-5 hours on a Saturday. If folks can tailgate at 7 AM for a 7 PM kickoff, why can't they stay all 4 quarters.

When your team is up by 52 with 5:00 left in the 4th, do you really need the crowd support to carry you to the finish line?

In fairness, Saban gets paid $6M per year to put in 90 hours a week. Fans pay money to go watch them play. Purchasing a seat should give you the right to leave whenever you want.
My blowout rule has generally been once UT quits trying to score (whether they're winning or losing) then I lose interest.

If his statement had clarified that it was about supporting the student athletes who are working so hard then it would have come across better. I.e. something like
"it means something to these student athletes that you stay the whole game, and these kids are giving their life to the program" That statement would have been better and may have been what he was trying to say.
