well i just have to say 2 of the top 3 teams in my most hated, but i respect the bamers alot more than the hookies, only thing they ever did was poop out the vick boys imo, it probley steems from the fact alot of the other kids i grew up with that were vol fans, when we started the slide and va tech got vick alot of them jumped on that broken down band waggon. (even though the guy i completed my first hs TD pass to was a decent TE there , browning wynn)

anyways im gona say bama 33-0. dont think tech should be pissing around with the sec when they are to chicken **** to scheadule they're biggest rival west virginia, but im sure thats a 2 way street.

sorry for rambleing. thoughts ?

I'm going to go with the SEC and say 21-14 Bama but, honestly, I don't know a thing about VT.

Don't like either team but I will pull for the SEC I guess.

I hope the stadium burns down (but all get out safely) and the NCAA declares it a double-loss so both start 0-1.

and since when is VT's biggest rival WVU?

I wondered that as well. The only thing I ever hear from the Hokie fans is how they are so much better than Tennessee.

Virginia Tech spanked em pretty good in the music city bowl about 10 years ago, may have been the last time they met up. VT has a couple of good qb's which have had a lotta game snaps that and very good special teams. I think Bama loses this one 31-16.

Um........no. VT's "returning starter" threw 2 TD's and 7 INT's last year. Their offense was terrible in a terrible league. And their special teams play hasn't been all that special recently.

Bama wins going away. 35-7.

Maybe your right, thats why they play em. But I'm looking at a year of maturization for this VT squad. I hope your not as pessimistic about the Vols improvement over the off season.

Va Tech's offense has been pretty bad (or very bad) the last few years really. Other than that HB this last season, they pretty much won their games off of defense and special teams.

Actually, year before last game against ECU (2007, not last year) they almost lost too. They're offense only scored once. and the game was close, 3-7, till a pick 6 inside the 20 of ECU to make it 10-7. Hokies O found the endzone finally in the 4th quarter but that was the only time they were close to it all game. Any team w/ a half-decent offense should have been able to score more than that on offense against ECU that year....

Va Tech always has bad offense since the Vicks left it seems.

But their Defense is good enough to stop Bama some. I think it will be one of those games where the scores closer than the actually game - where if you watch it you can tell there's no way one of those teams can score enough on their offense to beat the other... I'll say bama wins by 2 TDs though....like a 28-14 or 21-7 game.

Ok, but why is Bama the only one is your equation that isn't going to improve over the off season? I know you'll say that bama lost a lot of key players...... but so did everyone else in america. Bama had one of the youngest teams in the nation last year. VT lost players too.

As far as being pessimistic about UT's improvement, yes I am. I'm a Bama fan. However, the first season of ANY coach is usually not great. There's too much for the players to learn. And it's not like the cupboards were full with your boy got there. Whether or not Kiffin can coach remains to be seen (you can guess my opinion) but even if he can, I don't think you're going to see any remarkable turnarounds in year one. I understand that isn't a popular opinion around here.

Yes I am. Would you like me to post their stats supporting my argument?

You already tried by blowing off Tyrod Talyor because of his Sophomore stats... Bama looses three offensive linemen, a solid QB, and their leading rusher. Say what you will about the defense (also loosing two key players) but without a pounding offense controlling the ball, Bama will not be as good. Not saying VT will win, just saying it will not be anything close to a blowout.

Yeah, because stats from 08 tell you how a team is going to do in 09.

No, but they're a guage of what you might expect. Show me where VT has gotten better - Other than their terrible QB is a year older.

I suppose you're basing your opinions on the preseason rankings?

Key players VT lost:
OFFENSE: Sean Glennon-QB, Devin Perez-FB, Nick Marshman-OG, Ryan Shuman-C, Dustin Keys-K
DEFENSE: Orion Martin-DE, Brett Warren-ILB, Purnell Sturdivant-ILB, Victor Harris-CB

Key Players UA lost:
Offense: Andre Smith - OT, Marlon Davis - OG, John Parker Wilson - QB, Glen Coffee - RB, Antoine Caldwell - C

Defense: Bobby Greenwood - DE, Rashad Johnons - FS

How does VT have an advantage there? They lost as many or more players than Bama.

Yes, I agree, the offensive line is an area of concern. We lost 3 good players. However, we have talent replacing them. The first team O-line held up fairly well in the spring game against the first team D-line which is arguably one of the top five in the nation.

Our, starting QB, McElroy, is a junior and very mature. He has a good arm and is very accurate. I'm sure there will be some growing pains, but I'll take him over Tyrod Taylor behind center any day.

IF Alabama doesn't have a "pounding offense" (and I think they will) Saban and McElwain have been around long enough to know what to do - throw the ball more. Last year our biggest weakness was pass protection. Our new offensive line is reportedly better in that area, although probably not yet as good in the run blocking of last year. I'm sure you don't know much about our recieving corp, but it's a lot deeper than Julio Jones. We have some very good players who didn't get the ball much last year due to injuries, or the QB locking onto JJ, or whatever. Also some of them were young.

I'm not trying to make Alabama out to be the greatest team ever, but I do think they're going to be very good. And I think VT is just another "good" ACC team that is overrated going into the season.

1. It's gauge.
2. Why would I base my opinion on some garbage preseason rankings?
