How this guy has gone as a starter in high school and college without losing a game simply amazes me. I am watching the replay of last years BCS national championship game and he really sucked at times during that game. He also never impressed me throughout the season. He is so inconsistent and seems really inaccurate for the most part. I might be missing something with this kid, but I just don't think he is that good. If it wasn't for Ingram and Richardson and Bama's defense, no way they would have gone undefeated and this guy would be the starting QB. If someone can shed some light that would be great. All Bammer posters opinions are welcome as well.

He doesn't have to be great, just has to manage the game and not turn the ball over. The supporting cast he has doesn't hurt any either. That being said, we'll never know for sure but the way Texas come out on that opening drive with McCoy, I think if he would have manned up and finished the game that Texas would have come out of that game with a W. I usually cheer for SEC schools in bowl games I just couldn't bring myself to do it with Alabama.

ehh...

he looked legit against the vaunted Gators D
I will say that I think that was the best game that kid has ever played and will never have a game that good again. I had never saw a guy catch as many breaks that game as that kid did in that game.

I agree. If McCoy would have stayed healthy in that game, Bama would not have won. Gilbert was a fumbling interception machine in that game.

BTW, I am still watching the game. Ingram and Richardson are still dominating, and McElroy is still sucking. Amazing!

Very smart guy, graduated in 3 years, good leader, disciplined, been around football all his life, very respected by team, and does what is expected of him, dependable. If you have all the other elements in place that Bama has, then he has what it takes to win.

I don't see how McCoy would have made it the whole game with the shots he was taking. He was getting rocked every play.

It just happened sooner rather than later.

Broke two ribs in the Florida game. Severe pain whenever he passed the ball. Bama's game plan against Texas was adjusted accordingly.

He's healthy for the upcoming season.

The last time I saw a no talent lucky bum of this caliber he had a name across his back during games...Grossman. Rex Grossman made more spilt second just b4 his arse got creamed than any QB I ever saw.

I had forgot about him. Grossman was also very lucky, not so much in the NFL lol. It was kind of like playing a video game. Right as you left your feet to rock the guy's world he got rid of it just in time.

He seems like a great kid. He probably isn't the best guy on the field, but he also probably knows this - he uses what he can to get the job done - wouldn't mind seeing him in orange.

McElroy should show some improvements this year, last year was his first year starting. Hopefully we will play a lil longball this year and have an unstoppable offense, the weapons are most certainly there.

The bad part is, he doesn't have to improve and Alabama still wins 10 games easily.

McElroy = Jay Barker

He is Jay Barker version 2.0 - A modest, but nothing outstanding, QB who lucked out by being on a team with incredible talent and a stalwart defense. He would suck on any other team.

I heard him on the radio at Media days. He says he's not planning on NFL, he wants to be a Rhodes scholar and was writing his paper for acceptance.

Rhodes Scholar, graduated in 3 years, only made 1 B in college and that was a leadership class. I heard him speak about that and said he wanted to take it over and try to get an A.

Good thing he is smart and wants to be a Rhode Scholar. He has enough sense to know he will not even get a look from the NFL. John Parker Wilson didn't, and he was at least accurate and consistent when he did throw the ball.
